I have a Millermatic 140 mig welder. I need to purchase a extension cord for it. I was thinking or buy the RIDGID 100 ft. 10/3 Extension Cord. Not sure if I really need the 100 feet but it is about $20. dollars more the the 50 feet. So why not go with the 100 feet? Will this effect the preformance of the welder? Thanks for you helpThis contractor-grade indoor/outdoor RIDGID 100 ft. 10/3 Extension Cord is a reliable, heavy-duty cord that will perform in extreme temperatures at home and on the job.Carries power to where you need it 100 ft. 3-wire indoor/outdoor cord 1 outlet Power-on indicator light for safety Kink-free cord 15 amp, 125-volt capacity Performs in temperatures from -58 to 167 degrees Fahrenheit MFG Brand Name : RIDGID MFG Model # : AW62628 MFG Part # : AW62628
Reply:It'll never run with a 100' lead cord....We have a Millermatic 130 at work, just plugged into the outlets, with no lead cord it pops breakers.25' In my opinion is pushing it...with 15amp service, 20amp, maybe a 50'Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:Thanks
Reply:I have a lincoln 140 and have used it on a 100' 10/3 cord to build and install 250 feet of iron fence around my pool. On a 20 amp breaker, it has never tripped. See pic :Lincoln 140 Weldpak
Reply:Nice job
Reply:when we use the SP135 at work, our rule of thumb is less than 100' of cord.

Reply:http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...ds+4294918543?i would role with this because if you were to have the machine maxed you run the risk of burning the cord.  i was gouging with a SRH-444 and burnd up the power cord.  i know its not quite the same but it still happend.WELD TO LIVE LIVE TO RIDEA bad welder blames his equipment, a good weldor can lay a perfect bead on any thing
Reply:what happens if you go toa #8 cord in terms of the voltage drop?
Reply:Thanks for everyones help. For now I will just move the welder and work bench closer to the outlet.

Maybe 'good enough'--but they will have lack of fusion.--I use Steelmix (90/10) which runs considerably hotter than 75/25 and did not like the lack of good fusion-at all; when struggling with 100' of 10/3. Did that job with stick instead of mig.

Reply:We focus on the extension cord and sometimes fail to even think about the circuit we're coming off of (starting point). If you're plugging into end of a 15 amp circuit that is already 65 feet of 14 awg that picks up a bunch of overhead lights as well as loops through 7 receptacles with those cheezy back stab connections and already has some lamps a TV and other devices in the middle of the summer while the entire country is running their air conditioners full gag, I wouldn't necessarily blame the cord. You have to start with some capacity before you can end with capacity. It's like hooking a 5/8th inch hose on the end of a 1/2 inch pipe run and a valve that only has a 1/4 inch orifice and blaming the size and length of hose."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
