Hi guys,The radiator support frame mount on my '96 K1500 was bent back about 3/4 of an inch in an accident. I was thinking I could heat up the area where it bent back with a rosebud and pull the mount back into alignment with a 1 ton "come along". Does anyone know what is the minimum size rosebud I can use to heat a 4" tall x 2" wide x 1/8" thick part of the frame enough to bend it? I have been looking at buying or leasing oxy & acetylene tanks and I understand there is a "1/7 rule" concerning the draw rate out of the acetylene tank. That would mean that the #6 rosebud that I have (which draws a max of 40SCFH) would require a 280CF tank to be safe. I was hoping to have nothing bigger than 130CF tanks or so. This is being used in a home shop and I won't be using the torch that much.I'd appreciate any advice on what to do.Thanks very much!George
Reply:Airgas sells/rents the 130 cu ft and 330 cu ft acetylene cylinders. I know the 330 is bigger, but you will be able to draw off that cylinder with out the rosebud popping back. As the 130 cu ft cylinder is consummed, popping or overdrawing the gas will occur. the 330cu ft is much bigger/safer but will work for sure.OrYou can use a propane cylinder with oxygen and crank the propane pressure up past the 15psi with the appropriate propane rosebud on your existing torch body, But you will have to buy that extra propane rosebud for this to work. This information should help you accomplish a Kingdom Building solution to help you get wealthier
Reply:Geo,I read this over on aws as well.Im thinking besides what all others have said, why not use a cutting tip. Biggest tip you own and just dont hit the oxy check(cut lever)Ive used this many times for heating and bendingn chores. Its worked marvelously. Ive never used a traditional rosebud. If the cut torch dont fit it, I use a tiger on propane(weed burner)Just my two cents.IF it Catches...Let it Burn
