What's the difference between a fixed nozzle gas diffuser and a adjustable nozzle gas diffuser?  Which is better to use?  Also you have regular contact tips and tapered contact tips.  Which is better to use and why?  thanks!!!
Reply:Well I'll just run through what an adjustable nozzle allows without getting into the real merits or perceived value of an adjustable nozzle. With an adjustable nozzle you can shove the nozle forward for running a longer stickout from the tip but still keep the nozzle close to the work piece for gas coverage. An adjustable nozzle might be handier for switching to spray mode in this instance too rather than switch to a shorter tip or longer nozzle (???). An adjustable nozzle will allow you to pull the nozzle back a bit for tight angles or corners so you could run your favorite stickout or a short stickout without the nozzle bumping. I'm sure there's more reasons listed in the glossy brochures but I can't think of any more. The main use of the tapered tips if for use with the reduced sized nozzles, 3/8ths instead of 1/2 inch for example. Lets you go to a smaller nozzle and still have room for gas to flow around the tip freely. I suppose you could use them for use with flux and gain a slight advantage on side clearance in those tight spots. Flap wheel achieves that for me.
Reply:Thanks Sandy you have been very helpful I am starting to get the big picture.  I appreciate your input.
