ok so i picked up a lincoln weldanpower 250 g9 pro for $500 from my friends dad. its been in his garage for the past 10 years and never been fired up. havent started working on it yet. but i need to find out a couple more things about it.1. its complete. nothing missing. except battery. good deal?2. code no. is 9350 serial # is A1129446 what year is it?3. where do you guys buy onan air filters from?
Reply:I would say you got a real good deal, around here that machine would bring around a grand, cant help you with the year, I have always had good results from my local napa for filters, might take a day or two but they have always managed to get what i needed & pretty reasonable. I have also ordered from jacks small engine parts ( online ) for oddball stuff. good luck with your new toy sounds like a nice one.                                                                                                        Bob

Reply:Unless your specific unit was the first unit built in a particular model year you won't find your exact unit SN in the Service Notice.Because your unit SN (A-1129446) falls between that shown for the first one produced in 1988 (A-1109240) and the first one produced in 1989 (A-1136147) that identifies it as a 1988.  Because A-1129446 falls closer to the first unit built in 1989 indicates it was built in the last third of 1988.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:just bought the battery for the welder. did the oil change and filter during the week. have an air filter on order from jacks small engines. should be here by the 17th. all i need is cables for the battery and im thinking about making new leads for it! oh i forgot, gotta drain out all the old gas out. any recommendations on what to use for the carb? besides brake cleaner. it really doesnt get that gummy stuff out. or should i just rebuild it?probably new fuel lines too right?
Reply:Seafoam will clean the carberator as you run the engine.. Stabil and Seafoam in your gas will keep it clean.  I buy them both in the Automotive section of my local Walmart.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:Any good napa, car quest will get you your filters. Any good lawn mower shop will to. I used to work on Onans in Jds all the time along with gensets. If you cant find them email me I have a good parts guy here at my local CQ and i can get him to cross them up for you.
Reply:For a carb that is seriously gummed up from setting, Seafoam will do nothing. It will require the carb be disassembled and cleaned properly.
Reply:Go buy yourself a gallon can of Berryman carb cleaner. It has a plastic tray inside the can to drop your parts in to let them soak. This stuff will clean any gummed up carb. http://www.berrymanproducts.com/Prod...sCleaners.aspxLast edited by Showdog75; 02-13-2011 at 09:59 PM.

Reply:jackssmallengines.com has parts for Onan engines. I have an ancient Miller AEAD with an Onan and I've had very good experience with Jadk's.  You probably need to start making plans for a muffler, too.
Reply:why a muffler?
Reply:Originally Posted by Boilermaker374Like any small gasoline engine, they have small carbs, and the gasoline will foul fairly quickly if not protected with a "stabil" type product. If the machine is not going to be ran for weeks at a time, by all means, keep the fuel protected with Stabil. The issues the previous poster was talking about is, if the machine had sat for a long time not ran, it may have to have the carb disassembled and cleaned.Dont let anyone talk you into putting Seafoam in the thing in hopes that it will fix the issue, because it wont.If it has sat long enough to foul the carb, only a disassemble and clean will do the job correctly.I just reread your OP, and see that you say it has sat for 10 years. This will probably necessitate cleaning the entire fuel system. The fuel tank will either be gummed up, or rusted, the fuel line will probably be rotted (they will rot from the inside out causing some unseen problems). While none of these repairs are considered major, you can save money and do them yourself. Also, if it has sat for 10 years, I would change the oil before ever trying to run it, then would change it again after about an hour run time. The oil that is in it will be full of condensate water, and acid buildup from its last running.I qualify my statements by the fact that I am a Honda factory trained technician, and have been wrenching for over 30 years now.
Reply:BPMufflers rust out real fast when not used often. Ive been messing with some old garden tractors for a few years now, 8 at least, and when the Cat dealier I worked for let al the truck drivers go I took my hobby and turned it into a job. On our Cub Cadet forum we get these gas questions all the time, about going bad, or stale gas. One thing is if you can find ethonal free gas, use it! In the schools I went to and also 60 min did a story on it, its killing the small eng industry. Any more gas is good for 30 days. The ethonal attracts water/ moisture and it goes bad. Kaw is the only one that will say this in any school. Ive seen broke cam gears that were caused by bad fuel, turned into like glue! Heres some pick from one I did, my finger and the other was from a gocart that one of the guys in the shop did. Green gas is normal after sitting all winter. Attached Images
Reply:interesting.so i bought new fuel lines and a new fuel filter yesterday. underneath the tank theres sort of a valve but i dont know if its a shut off valve or a petcock for draining the fuel. anybody know?Im sure its a shut off. Ill take a few pics tomorrow and Ill bet it looks like one of them. If it were a diesel then it may be a drain.
Reply:took off the intake manifold and carb. extremely clean! wasnt expecting it to be THIS clean. Attached Images

Reply:last one.....i think. very little carbon buildup on the valves too. Attached ImagesLast edited by bp626indamix; 02-19-2011 at 11:25 PM.

Reply:No I haven't tried firing it up. These are just things I'm checking before I do. I want to avoid any problems as much as I can. Better safe than sorry. I guess its the engine builder in me that's causing me to do this. Sorry if I'm being anal. Next thing I'm gonna do is turn the crank by hand at the ring gear. Should I have not taken the carb off?
Reply:Not saying you shouldn't have but just questioning if it was ever deemed necessary.  You may have been able to have burned thru 50# of rod by now if you had tried to fire it up first.  Just saying. When I check out a machine for the first time I check the oil and give it a once over visual and crank it.  If I don't get spark I fix what's needed and try again.  If I get spark but no fire then I look at the fuel delivery system and fix anything needed there.  Once running I check out the weld/generator part and go from there with taking care of everything needed pertaining to ignition, fuel and weld/generator issues.  I just couldn't have waited this long ot see if would run/weld/generate is all.Last edited by duaneb55; 02-20-2011 at 02:37 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I would have changed oil, drained gas, replaced fuel lines, inspected tank for rust/gunk and if all looked good I would have tried to fire it. I know a lot of people that shut the fuel off and continue to run the engine till it dies to drain the carb to store small engines to save the hassles of ethanol blended fuels.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"

Reply:How do I clean out the small amount of rust in the gas tank that is just floating around? I already installed a clear inline fuel filter.
Reply:BP I didnt get the camera out today, but Ill bet that would run with some of the advise from above. What I do when checking out a smal eng, is to check the oil, and smeel it. If its over full and smells like gas, maybe the needle and seat. If everything is ok in the oil Ill take some carb cleaner and if it will run on that, no nocks, smoke, oil leaking, then most times a carb rebuild will do it. Theres nothing wrong with that carb. Run it. As far as the fuel tank, if its not too badly rusted, get 25% muadic acid and 75% water and sme nuts bolts and dump it all in the tank. Slosh it around and get it cleaned************ WEAR PROTICVE CLOTHING ITS ACID ********************Then dump it all out and get the old ladies hair drier and dry it out FAST and coat the inside with oil. When you use the acid it will clean the metal and it will quickly rus again if you done coat it. This is what I do with my steel tanks. If its baddly rusted, then up the acid ratio. Grounds are best in the oil pan as above or to the frame of the unit if on a trailer. On small eng's you cant have enough ground.
Reply:thanks everyone.

Reply:She's in great shape.  Fire that thing up and burn some rod. That black box is the fuel pump that operates off crankcase pressure pulsation.  There's another short hose on the backside that connects to a tube on the timing gear cover that senses the crankcase pressure pulsations that make it work.  If the other hoses showed signs of cracking, you'd probably be wise to change the sensing line as well.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:got the battery cables hooked up today. but still gotta clean the rust from inside the gas tank. i figured id still give it a try and crank the motor. at first it wouldnt do anything but after a few times of hitting the start button the starter got unstuck. and it was cranking like a beast after being dormant for ten years! taking the tank to get cleaned and sealed tomorrow. yeah baby!Ranger 305gMillermatic 140 AutosetDewalt Chopsaw2 grindersMy Fists
