I've just purchased a used portable oxy-acetylene set of tanks. The regulators are old and beat up and I want to use my regulators on these tanks. My problem is the acetylene tank (10 cu. ft.) has a small male thread and I havn't been able to find an adaptor to match my acetylene regulator from my large tank. Any clues as to where to find one or why I can't find one would be appreciated.
Reply:You don't want an adaptor. What you want to do is change out the fittings. It might be as simple as removing the pipe or tubing that's going into your regulator and doing the same with the old beat up one.Slip off your tank fitting and slip on the one from the old beat up regulator. Then reassemble your regulator. Some people do this same trick with nitrogen regulators so they can use them on their oxygen tanks. The only glitch is one of the processes for refining the nitrogen involves oil. Not a good thing. If you're uncomfortable with doing this take the regulators down to your welding supplier and they'll not only do it for a reasonable price. They'll do it right.life is good
Reply:It seems as though I may have to get a new regulator because I still want to be able to use the one I've got for large capacity tanks. Any other solutions??
Reply:Any good ,full-service welding supply store will have an adapter available. They might not have it in stock, but they will be able to get one. Be sure to bring all the components that you want to the adapter to fit between. I like having the option of going to the other size tanks also, and have a variety of adapters. This is particularly handy on a Sunday afternoon, when you run out of gas in your tank, but your buddy has a bit different style.Just my opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com

Reply:Thank you for your input. I did find one at Pittsfield Welding Supply. Probably should have looked there first but got nervous when I couldn't find one on line.
Reply:I know that this is not a reply, but on the subject of adapters, has anyone seen one for propane? Sometimes I do not need all that heat.
Reply:My propane bottle uses the same connection as my acetylene regs....I just hook up, change to propane tip and ready to goIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Get a set of the CGA 300 series regulators for cheap on ebay. You'll probably pay less for those than an adapter. |
