hello everyone,my first post!been doing more reading(learning)for the past year since i found this forum.anyway this is a great story might get a little long so please bear with me.i went over to a buddys trucking co.he is retiring and sold everything except the shop and land.just went over to b/s .the shop guys were cleaning out the shop and asked what do we do with this welder?my friend says throw it away its broken.i almost passed out! anyway i asked him if i could have it since he was going trash it anyway,he said sure.its a snap -on ya 212 ,it works but needs a new trigger!thats all thats wrong somebody ran over it with a fork lift.pretty good score!!!!!anybody know where i can get a new torch for this unit?thanks in advance, matts dad
Reply:Great score!!!I am sure snap-on sells this.  you may also be able to use another gun (keeping the existing conduit and cable).  But here is the link to the welder.http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools...e=snapon-storemig gunhttp://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalogThey probably sell parts for the gun also.  If all that's wrong is the trigger...you should be able to rig up something.Last edited by smithboy; 04-19-2006 at 03:31 PM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:thanks, yeah i saw the snap-on stuff.$$$$called CKS systematics and they are faxing me the owners manual.just wondering if there was any other torch that would fit?
Reply:Probably.I use a tregaskiss and the gun can be completely disassembled from the hose and stuff.  With a bit of work, I could probably make a miller gun fit on the end of it.  I don't see why snap-on would be any different.  If you can find another gun in reasonably good shape you might be able to make a 1/2 snap-on, 1/2 (brand-X) assembly.  If the part that connect to the feeder (back end) can be disassembled, you might be able to get another entire gun, and replace its back end with that of the snap-on...I think the snap-on uses a different back end.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:yep,if all else fails i'll buy a new one.but for now i think you got the right idea.thanks `alot...will keep posting as i get it fixed.
Reply:There are several replacement brands that sell guns to fit all kinds of migs (tregaskiss is just one).  Some are pretty reasonable, the question is do they carry the snap-on back end.  I'd go there next if the repair job starts looking problematic.   Good luck and keep us posted.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:HTP  America (sponsor at top of this page) sell a lot of torch part for many types of welders.
Reply:hey everyone,i found a torch that will wqork for this rig. local welding shop here in albuquerque.the guy there is good guy and he figured it out and found me what i needed for $155.00 instead of $400.00 from snap -on.will p/u it up this week-end and fire it up(can't wait!!!!!).
Reply:well, yesterday i fired it up.WOW!everything works great, new torch ,work cable, some gas.cost me around $300.00 for all the stuff to  put it back together.Snap on sent me a copy of the orig owners manual and found out this unit was made in 1988.local welding shop took a look at it for me,said it was in good shape .ran my first welds yesterday,(every piece of scrap i could find is welded together)LOL,just too much fun !great welder and i think i'm gonna pass my 110 rig to my son in law.anyway thanks again for all of oyur help.matts dad........

Reply:Good score! One thing you may want to check is the inside. If it's been in a shop for a long time, it could have either been maintenanced or NOT. If not, take the cover off and get some "air in a can" and blow out the internals. Just a tip for making it last longer. It may take 2 or 3 cans.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:yep, your are right.i took it all apart cleaned everything,re-painted it(flames)new wheels, etc.was'nt to bad inside cobwebs and dust, hit it with the compressor.gathering up material to build a towable pit smoker, will try to post up some pics of the welder and project..again,thx for the input.matts dad.......
Reply:Good deal, maintaining it inside as well will pay off in the long run. Glad I could throw out some helpful information. Post some pics later when done.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
