what would be the best around the garage for small jobs on 120v and I'd like one portable to run off a generator.
Reply:how much are you looking to spend on your new welder? what welders have you used in the past if any? what is the output of your generator?
Reply:from the sounds of it a fluxcore mig is what you need...lincoln..miller..they both make some good stuff....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:From all I've researched ANY 120 box will run on a  4000-5000 continuous output generator. The 220 machines that draw alot of amps are a different story and you really need to look at the input requirements at the machines high end.(lots of people run a 220volt millermatic 175 on a 5000-5500 continuous watt generator)Buy a good 120volt fluxcore machine and later if you want it but a cheep 120volt 90-110 amp stick machine.Last edited by Aric; 07-11-2006 at 10:37 AM.
Reply:Check out www.toolking.com.  The sell new and reconditioned Hobart Handlers.  Sometimes you can still get a factory reconditioned HH135 for $335 or so, with a warranty.  They also sell brand new and reconditioned HH140s for very good prices.Unless you never need GMAW capability, never waste your money on a machine that doesn't support it.  You'll kick yourself many times over.If indeed FCAW is all you'll ever need, check out the new Hobart Handler 125EZ.  Research all of these over at www.hobartwelders.com
Reply:Depends what jobs you might be doing too. Auto based, I would say wire, it is easier. General fabbing, stick, cheaper too.
