A few small projects I've done lately... Feel free to give me input as I've only been welding for a few months.  Removable Vise Stand held in with drop in anchors  (No studs sticking out!) Next is a snow plow I started making for the old garden tractor. Not done yet but working on it. Using only scraps around the garage. Millermatic 210
Reply:HelloI don't wanna be a jerk, but could you maybe make the pics smaller. (4-600 pixel width).  I'd like to look at them but I'm on dialup, and the large download makes my computer come down with a severe case of indigestion.    It ain't workin' on this end. Thanks"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I found an easy way to resize your "Too Big" pictures- simple right click the picture and email it to yourself. A window will pop up giving you the option of making the picture smaller or keep its original size. If you choose to make it smaller- then you just save the picture that comes through your email on your desktop and post it from there. I hope this made sense!
Reply:Nice welding by the way!!

Reply:you want some critique huh. i'm in college getting my degree in metal fabrication now. and although your welds may be good welds if i turned a project in for a grade like that he'd make me redo it just based on cometics. 1 thing is your legs are un-even. it looks like you didn't use any manipulation. i cant tell the size of your weld from the picture but it looks like a 3/8 weld. do you know how to write cursive e's? try using that as a manipulation teqnique that should even your legs out. just keep the e's consistent in size and make sure you travel speed stays consistant. i have that same welder too. so if you got any q's just ask. peace out.pic #3Last edited by weld deez; 10-06-2008 at 06:48 PM.
Reply:another thing is that lap weld is no good.pic#8 your weld needs to be atleast as thick as the base metal. and needs to go about 1/16 onto the top.
Reply:Perfect! Thanks for the tips! I will try the cursive e's next time I'm on it to see how it works out. As for pic # 8, I went over it again with a second pass which covered the entire lap joint as well as some of the top of the workpiece. My goal was to make strong welds first, Now that I have accomplished that, I will focus more on the "appearance"  from here on out. Thanks again!Millermatic 210
Reply:The welds look pretty good for a beginner. You don't have to wiggle the mig gun to make good welds.  The heat, travel speed, gun angle all have to be right.  Both ways work, I use more heat if I do circles or what ever is need for a specific job.  I like a nice smooth flowing bead.  My question is where did all the spatter come from?   I am guessing not having a steady hand.  The first pic is really nice, good flow.  It looks like the heat was right, but again consistency in moving the mig gun would improve the looks. All in all, good job.  David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I'm with David. Looks pretty good for someone just learning. And every one of us had to learn  to make it look good.and if you do it right you'll still be learning as long as you weld.As David said, you don't need to wiggle the gun on welds of that type. It's the nature of a mig to make extremely smooth welds and the operator has to do very little except hold the gun steady and move at the right speed.Keep on designing things to build. That's the fun part of welding.
Reply:NOW I think I see why the spatter.  Co2?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Along with all the other advice, I would say "watch yer undercut"! Picture #4 looks a little deep to me. Pic #5 Looks better. But Pic #3 well, that looks good!  On Pic #8 I'm in agreement with weld deez. Plus I would like to add to his comments, "Watch the toes"! They need to be tied in tighter. With practice, that will come naturally. (The top of your weld in Pic #8 the toes are tied tight, its the bottom of the weld I'm referring to).
Reply:I like the idea for the snowblade. How are you going to make the bottom surface flat? Hammer it? I might try this tomorow, been looking for a fun welding project for some time now!
Reply:Update*** I have completed the lawn tractor plow and couldn't be happier. It works like a charm so far. Let the snow begin! Here are a couple of pics. The plow itself will most likely be swapped for a cut compressor/propane/hot water heater tank since the drum is hard to weld to (Very Thin). Enjoy and I made a small vid to show it in action. Reply:BPS,  Nice little project.  It'll sure beat shoveling that white stuff.  Something I haven't had to do for years now.  Looks a lot like the snow plow design of the 1955 Farmal 100 I had years ago.I might suggest fitting a couple adjustable skid shoes on bottom of the blade to keep it from scalping the lawn and digging into the driveway like in your video (nice touch btw).  The shoes should keep the blade edge 1/2"-3/4" off the ground.  Saves a lot of yard work in the spring.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
