Reply:I dont use the thoriated tungsten ... but point taken .. Will it work ok with all the different tungsten types?
Reply:As far as I know, Yes. I've sharpened 2%, 1%, cerrated, lanthanated; all with the same appealing result. Sharp, centered point, no grinding striations to deflect the arc.Weldtek
Reply:Question for ya ... Can you see the difference in the arc if you groundon a fine wheel  VS Chemical ..  noticably different?  Curious..
Reply:If you grind the tungsten axially on a bench grinder, so the point is in line with the center of the wheel, with no grind marks, I don't think you'll notice any difference than chem sharpening. Chem sharpening, is easier and more convenient for me. Generally, I will sharpen a dozen sticks, both ends. I made a tungsten holder a life time ago with 1/2" S/S pipe with a screw on top. You can make one with pvc real quik and cheap. Store your tungsten there, pull when needed and resharpen at the end or beginning of project/work.Weldtek
Reply:will it work ok if you contaminate the tungsten ?? even severely?
Reply:Oh, yeah! I fall asleep at the torch like everyone else. This stuff works great, try it.Weldtek
Reply:I have a jar of it and have used it. It does a nice job sharpening tungsten. I still don't know how it works.
Reply:I was told by the people at Weldingdepot that you have to heat the tungsten?  Can anyone elaborate on that?
Reply:man  sounds like a lot to get rid  of the the contaminated rod ! how long does it take? i can grind off in no time. why spend EXTRA $$  for a chemical to do a job unless it can do it faster .... but i 'll stay with grinding its worked for years ------GRIND ON-----                       TO THE                        POINT

Reply:i use it too because we got no way to grind it at workChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:My first attempt at using it was....   Heat tungsten, insert in jar, observe post-flow Argon blow chemical powder in a 3 foot circle around bench... I bought a sharpener soon after
Reply:Lets try this. If you have a foot pedal or a finger-trol; extend the tungsten out 1.5" and short it out on work. Add amps til glowing red. De-energize and then stir tungsten around in jar. Then brush off tungsten with wire brush. Good to go.Imagine an auto mechanic who's told to throw away all his sockets and still work on a car.One thing this forum should do, is broaden some minds...We mock what we don't understandWeldtek
Reply:hmmmm Well ... my welder has lift-start .. so .. cant heat it with the welder... unless ... I actually get an arc and give it a sec to heat up .. Can I heat it with a torch??Hope you werent referring to me Weldtek about broadening my mind ?? I really am trying to learn how its done.
Reply:Can you turn off the lift arc?And no I wasn't referring to you, just remember that welding is an art based in science.Weldtek
Reply:I think he was referring to me.  Don't be insulted, I broadened my mind enough to try it, but like the dedicated grinder better.  Personal preference, no offense..
Reply:some of the fancier, dedicated grinders will also allow you to vary the grind angle, which may be beneficial depending on what you're doing.-----------------------Carmen Electrodewww.CarmenElectrode.comand the boss blogs at  www.JoeWelder.comall powered by  www.Arc-Zone.com
