I ran a gas shielded 5/64 E71T-1 wire vertical up for the first time. With self-shielded, it isn't a problem, but I had never tried gas shielded in that size. I think I ran it a bit hot at around 320 amps but I was just trying to see if I could do it. I used 75/25 (Ar/CO2) for the shielding gas. I didn't clean it up except for knocking the slag off of it.

Reply:Wire should be big enough that you don't even have to weave it.Gas shielded flux core is super nice, love the stuff for pounding out inches in position. The 75/25 mix is what I found to work the nicest for position and spatter control.Nice stuff.
Reply:The reason that I used a slight weave is that I had enough heat that the puddle would have fallen if I would not have used the weave to cool the bead slightly. I'm sure if I would have spent a little more time fiddling with the settings, I could have run a stringer.
