May be a dumb question but, can I weld on my skid with my Commander bolted to it? I want to add hooks and lead hangers. But I don't know if it is like a car and have to disconnect the battery. (I was planning on using my Shopmaster for the welding.) I don't want to blow, shock or fry a board or anything."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Cool, I didn't feel like unbolting it."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Here's the problem of welding on your skid with the machine thats mounted to it. The ground connection. If for some reason the electrical circuit is grounded to the welding ground circuit inside our machine - and if you don't have the welding ground cable making good contact with your skid - and you start welding............... your could fry the electrical wiring in your machine. That would happen because none of that electrical wiring has a common (ground) wire thats large enough to carry that many amps (your welding heat).I'd say its not grounded so without your ground cable connected it won't arc. If it doesn't then you're fine I'd say.If you can arc on our skid without your welding ground cable connected then I'd say YES you could have a problem. If you do continue to weld without having a very good ground connection then the ground will be your electric wiring and it won't last very long. There is also the question of having modern day electronics exposed to welding feedback. If you're worried about that then don't do it. lolGood luck manLaterLast edited by slowhand; 05-20-2011 at 06:24 PM.
