Laser Welders

I am new to the site, and was wondering if anyone is currently into laser welding?
Reply:Nope but interesting info came  across my desk at work recently.    Big laser trade show coming soon.     There are people doing it, but it certainly isn't mainstream.If I remember I will bring the flyer home and update this.Dave
Reply:I did some calling around to some big weld shops in CT looking to get a special weld done. Most of the bigger outfits only offered laser or electron beam welding. Laser I can kind of figure out, but I have no idea on electron beam welding.Mike
Reply:The reason I tossed out the question about Laser Welders, was b/c my company has recently purchased one.  I was hoping to get some tips from some people who have had any experience.  However, I think that it is so new that I am going to have to figure out alot on my on.
Reply:Both laser and electron beam have been around for quite a while.  Electron beams have been in use since the early 60's. and lasers since the late 70's early 80's that I'm aware of.  The reason that there are so many EB welders in the CT area is that Hamilton Standard was based out of there, and they made hundreds of EB welders.I r 2 a perfessional

Reply:I am using the laser in a tool and die shop to weld up many intricant and tight areas.  As Dave said it can be used to weld up tiny engraving.  I have welded up many plates already for a texturing company out of Atl. that thought they had scrapped the parts.  They are easy and quick to stone back to a shine.  Again, if anyone sees or hears of some useful info. on the topic please post.  I will try to get some examples of before and after pics to give a feel for the machine's abilities.
