Reply:Punk Proof Mail BoxWhen I lived in Florida, the “good old boy’s” would go out Friday nights and run over mail boxes just for sh&ts and giggles.    They especially targeted the boxes with little girly wrought iron post.  My defense was a railroad tie, but my clever neighbor planted a large crankshaft with flywheel under his mail box.   My post might stop the truck but my neighbors would disenbowel it. BTW:  Nice job...Last edited by Billdacat; 10-30-2008 at 08:02 AM.

Reply:Originally Posted by duaneb556" Schedule 80 full and sunk in 4' of concrete works good on snow plows too.  Trouble is after the first 'jolt' they just raise the wing and take off the box!  Many, many, many years ago my GF put a plow in the ditch as a result of the above pipe installation.  He wasn't drivin' the plow - he installed the pipe.Nice mailbox Hott Racing.  Got any close-ups or shots of the construction?

Reply:Originally Posted by EdKingUsed to have that problem around here, so I took a large size mail box and put a small size mailbox in side and filled the gap with concrete. I got the thing mounted on a piece of telephone pole about 10" diameter. One morning I found a mangled aluminum bat lying near it, haven't had any trouble since.Ed
Reply:RE: snowplows, damage, injury, death, etc.How come a guy hits the 3 foot diameter oak tree by the road, and sucks it up.  But if he hits the mailbox you're liable??Could you be sued if some AH hits your house.  After all it's an obstructionAnd if your car is parked in the street??  What if someone hits that? This sounds strange"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:OK, I hate it too, but what's different on the mailbox it is deceptive with an intention. You know what you get wrapping your ride around a telephone pole. Kid breaks his arm and returns to a home where there's no health insurance and no extra money for anything. Kid gets stitched up at the hospital where a lawyer hangs around looking for work. Asks the parents if they want him get the money to pay for the med bill and perhaps a little, or a lot more, it's possible. I've seen parents suing even though they felt real s**tty about it, just because they didn't know how else to pay the hospital's bills. After being wheeled out of a CA hospital the first person I met asks me whether I want to sue the staff (that just saved my life). Holger
Reply:Very nice.I like the springs, that is a great idea.Probably save you from having to put a new post in the ground if someone runs it over. Not to mention the damage to their undercarriage The Welder Shop has great deals and reviews on Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Welders.

Reply:Yep, better safe than sorry.  My mailbox post is a wood 4x4 and it has a couple 3/4" holes drilled all the way through where it meets the ground so it will snap easily/cleanly off.  Every couple years I do have to replace it.

Reply:Build a  box out of half inch plate attatch it to a 6" pipe and concrete her in the ground with 3 bags of Sacrete.  Put you mail box inside.  Make sure the front of the 1/2 inch plate box has a plate door on a drop down hinge with a latch. My neighbor got tire of having his mailbox messed with and did  just what I said. One night he heard a car slowing down coming up the hill.  He heard a a loud WANG, followed by a sound of shattering glass followed by the car screeching to a halt followed by loud crying and cursing.  It was never messed with again.  But they moved to ours.  They pulled it up after bashing it a few times and threw it in the ditch where we found it 2 years later in the Kudzu.  In the mean time,  we bought a lexan mailbox that was guaranteed not to break.  They tried and tried to destroy it.  Some mornings, we would have to straighten it up.  One night we heard a loud boom and thought someone had blown a tire.  The next morning we went out to find our mailbox had been blown to bits by a molotov cocktail.  It was the next day that the County road crew found our mailbox down the road 2years later when they were cutting back the kudzu.  Would you believe the major boy that was involved was the postmaster's son?Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
