I need to repair the end cap for a motorcycle exhaust... it is inside the pipe... not worried about how it looks or it rusting... the material is 20ga and 16ga SS I don't own a tig... I figured I'd tack it slowly with .024 wire and the mig.. if I remember, SS is just mild steel with chrome? Reply:I would do it if it was my bike, wouldn't do it for a customer.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:As I have been told at school and work you can weld mild steel with stainless but not stainless with mild steel but with no reason given. I believe that there is more to stainless than just the chrome and it has to do with the carbon content as well.
Reply:You can weld it with regular ol' steel wire.Even if you did get SS wire you would need to get a Tri Mix gas to do it properly but as mentioned...Your bike, weld it up Customer bike, you probably wouldn't be asking Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge |
