I had an old metal cabinet with 9 4" sheet metal shelves in it.....which were pretty much useless. So after busting off the spot welds and removing the narrow shelves, I cut up some of my wire shelving and installed it to give me a relatively dust free storage cabinet for my lathe / mill tools, calipers, micrometers, etc. That should have been good enough.....but oh no, I had to dress up the outside too. Here's the picsThe wireframe Lambo use to be white, hanging on a white wall. You would hardly notice it....not any more!If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Not enough room in the cabinet by a longshot.  You'll See  More goodies make for more goodies. What that dear young woman has to do with sheetrock is beyond me, but I'll darn sure go out and buy some now"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I believe you Farmersamm, I'll eventually build some racking into the base of the 3 in1 table for the bigger stuff. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:It's amazing what the tooling actually weighs when you add it all up.  Your machine is probably in the neighborhood of 5-700lbs., and the tooling is fast catchin' up."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Samm, she is showing you how to attach the sheetrock with a battery operated drill, lol, and she looks good doing it too, lol
Reply:yeah with a outfit like that she would'nt have any trouble hiring a crew. but wearing that she would have a hard time getting anybody to work.
Reply:Well, at least it's good to see she's wearing protective clothing"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Love the calendar.  Cabinet ain't too shabby either.

Reply:Yes it is Tractapac, made from various size round rod.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Drill?  What drill?  Make -sure- that the cabinet is mounted well!  It would be bad if the cabinet pulled loose from the wall or if the cabinet mounting screws/bolts pulled or ripped through the back of the cabinet.  Or if the cabinet pulled itself apart from the weight of all the stuff you put in it.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Good point Moonrise, I have 6 X 2" screws into the 2"X4"'s now. A couple of shelf brackets under it would be a good safeguard. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:The screws you are mounting the cabinet to the wall are #6 (size) screws or there are quantity=6 screws? If they are #6 screws, I'd replace them with something like 1/4 inch lag bolts ( or even 3/8 inch ones!) with a nice thick steel washer under the head to distribute the load/clamping-force to the cabinet sheet-metal back.  Predrill the proper holes into the wall studs first. If the quantity of mounting screws is 6, what size are they?  See previous paragraph.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Nice job SWells, I have several of the wire shelves, no risers, now I'm thinking of some ways to work mine into some sorely needed shelving. I agree w/ MoonRise, lag bolts/washers should give you a stout mount. The brackets can't hurt either. Reply:Quantity = 6, they are 2" deck screws with small washers on them. You got me thinking now, I better beef it up some more....better safe than sorry. Thanks! If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Deck screws, as in glorified drywall screws? Those are usually about a #6 or a #8 screw.  Made to hold the deck boards down, not the structure together (except incidentally by trying the deck boards to the structure).Yeah, I'd use lag bolts/screws as mentioned.  Especially to hold up a cabinet filled with steel tools and tooling.  And a Lamborghini.  The shelf brackets underneath to help hold up the cabinet would be good too.  Use lags on them as well.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:If you give that only half the attention ya do the other projects, it's gonna be a beaut!So...... With all the cars layin' around the shop in small pieces, it's gotta be a B to ride a bicycle in the snow up there"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I got some feedback about the amount of weight that could potentially go into the cabinet and if the mounting would accomodate it. So I figured I'd enhance the mounting and create some additional storage along the way. I used some midnight engineerig (use what you have in the shop....stores are closed) to come up with this. The tray is on rollers (cut down roller lifters from the Chevy junk pile) that travel on a chunk of angle iron, with a smaller piece on top to keep it from tipping when extended. I welded some nuts on the bottom to cinch it up tight to the bottom of the cabinet (which will get the currents mounting screws replaced with 3" lag bolts). Still need to built a second stationary shelf and drill some more holes for tooling....here's what I got so far:Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
