This is a Ski Arch I made for a Freind. Lots of cussin to weld anodized aluminum (still learning) Attached ImagesSyncrowave 300, cooler and pulser
Reply:That looks like a hard thing to build, what with all the curves.  It looks good on the boat.Keeping things square is sometimes easier if you can line sight the parts when the main parts are in the same plane.  I'd be goin' nuts with this one you made.  It sure did come out goodLast edited by farmersamm; 11-12-2008 at 06:53 PM."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Thanks Samm, You know what they say. Measure 20 times, cut and tak weld 5 or 6.Syncrowave 300, cooler and pulser
Reply:I've always been afraid of working with curves just for that reason.  I don't have the experience to do it right."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Nice job.  I made something similar last summer.  They already had the most of the tubes mandrel bent, so I had to do was figure out where they went and what the straight tube distances were.  Gotta love those engineers.  They even had machined ends already made up.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:very nice job. getting a little cold here to be water skiing
Reply:Looks factory made but probably better, NICE.   I tried to find that pic of the wakeboard tower made of 2x4's but couldn't.  That was funny DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:Really nice job Brian, congats!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Looks pretty nice overall.    The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Really nice well designed strong job.Shape  looks great. Load points well distributed etc, If your friend ever bends that one I'd let him build the next one himself.Cheers  Gordon.
Reply:Nice wakeboard tower. I just installed a prefabbed one my father inlaw bought last night on his boat.  this one you made is very nice and looks to be very sturdy. Now you gotta start on the speaker and light bar.
Reply:man i would be willing to test it out. looks good brian i would love to see more pics. and also did u tig or mig looks good man later agwelderold skool idealarc welderEsab multi tool Milwauake 7inch angle grinder the best of all tho the oxyacceteline set up
Reply:I have a friend that wants me to do a similar custom job on his boat.  I am afraid to do it yet, having never welded anodized.  That is a sweet looking arch!  How did you do the bends?  Mandrel, roll bender, or something else?
Reply:Thanks guys, I used a Miller syncrowave 300 tig with cooler. The first one I built was with a Miller syncrowave 180 (no cooler) . The 180 would do the job (preheat helped) but no cooler made for a hot torch. Thumb switch on torch helped. I am still amazed by the work some of these marine fabricators are doing. I bent the tubes with a hydroulic bender made for roll bar material, think its call a "ONE SHOT" bender. Notched tubes with roll bar notcher. Looks like extra deep hole saw with clampSyncrowave 300, cooler and pulser
