These were done around April.  The company I do them for makes a bunch and when they are all sold, they do another batch.  The last batch had 14 that were not quite right.  Who screwed up is still in the air.  I think the holes were put in the wrong place, but that is what I think. Here is the thread from the original build.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=20364Here is where I put the blocks on the first time.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=20846The customer cut cut out the center weld and the outside welds of one block on each unit.  I put new ones on today. The first one I got almost all the way around and got some porosity.  I went over the bad part again and it looked OK.  I turned the gas up from 12 to 15 cfh. Here is the setup.  I built a quick stand for the positioner so it was the right height.  I can now weld while being "comfy".LOTS of tungsten ready.I used pulsed spray to make the stand.  This is how I trued the block to the tubesThe block is pretty big, so it soaks up a lot of heat. Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:More welds in the hole.  I chose tig because it would take time to set up the pulsed spray.  Only 14 to do, it took 2.5 hours for the whole job including preparing the parts.  Arcmaster 185 turned all the way up, water cooled torch, 3/32 red or gold electrode, 3/32 s-6 filler.Outside weld, there are 3 on each block.  Last one always comes out best When these are gone, I get to do a whole new batch.  David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Now, that tig work looks like perfection to me.  You must have had your snack before you tried that.Nice spray work.  What wire are you using?  I use a high grade 70s6 from Esab with a c18 that helps with the penetration.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:If I'm seein' right, that one piece is threaded.  Is it still gonna be used as a threaded connection, and how in the hell did you keep the filler out of the threads??  I'd have crap everywhere."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:What Lincoln wire was it that cost that much?  My 40+ pounders of ESAB only costs me 65 bucks or so.  It is aristorod something or the other 70S6.  Welds flawlessly.  Other times I use National.  But everyone around here in the plants use Murex.  It is the cheapest junk you can find.  I would rather weld with Harbor Freight wire.  (Sorry guys for dissing HF like that, but some of their stuff is good, some junk).Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
