Reply:There is a lot of good basic information on all all arc welding methods at http://www.millerwelds.com/education/library.html. User manuals for HF welders aren't very helpful, are they?TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig Lincoln SP135+ Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160

Reply:I agree with KRS about dragging the wire. I assume that you are using self-shielding wire....If that is true, then you ALWAYS should drag. With Gas shielded, there are times when you want to push, but remember "where there will be slag, that is when you want to drag". Some Self-shielding wires are only meant to be run in the flat position. Others can be run vert-up and overhead, others can also be run vert-down. Only do vert-down if you really know what you are doing. Otherwise it is very easy to get a pretty weld with no penetration.
Reply:Originally Posted by KRSAll due respect, but I think you're wrong. You can push a puddle with MIG, but with wire feeding fluxcore you need to pull it along.Do you have the manual for your machine? You should hold the gun in your right hand (if right handed), and drag the weld from left to right (reverse if left-handed).

Reply:I know you *can* do it, but it's not the recommended process. Stick to the proper one unless you can't do it any other way and you have lots of experience. Not saying you can't do it... but it's not the preferred way for self-shielding flux core.
Reply:I push my flux when I'm welding thinner material that I have to worry about burning through. But drag for everything else. |
