Can any one help me with bridge welding codes?  I need to know if they require string beads on the 3G and 4G test.  I should buy the book but dont have enough time.Roger Wright
Reply:Haven't the foggiest, and the one guy in the  shop who would know is back at Aberdeen for class.  You could purchase and download the pdf file from AWS, that way you'd get it right away.Kalroy"It's all about the OODA Loop."
Reply:What state are youy located in? In MA they give us a green "bridge" card for $300 worth of B.S. It is 7018 stringer beads up and thats that, no back bar just a backing bead that is ground out, and subesiquent beads in the groove.
Reply:The D1.5 doesn't specify stringer or weave, the testing authority might according to whatever procedure they have written.Weldtek
Reply:True, what ever you are comfortable with to produce the best quality weld. I wasn't thinking when I posted earlier.
Reply:for all the test i have taken it was up to me on how i did the weave or string the only thing that i had to do there way was the volts and ampsChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:Thank youRoger Wright
Reply:Hello Wright!Just remember that power tools like grinders, air die grinders ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED during testing!!!!   Only your chipping hammer and wirebrush are allowed so, crank up your current about 5 more amps than you usually would and, make sure that you have a NEW wire brush, and sharpen up your chipping hammer accordingly...  Here's one more tip: if you have access to an old hack saw or bandsaw blade that has some relatively good teeth and some real good duct-tape like EB-Green, cut a length of whatever of the two types of blades available of approximately seven to nine inches...Wrap the bottom two inches or so with the duct-tape which will act as a handle... Voila!     You have slag scraper for those area's that cannot be reched properly with your chipping hammer!!! Some people suggested to use a tungsten but, I'd rather use one to weld with!!! Besides, tungstens are much more brittle and can easily break when applying it for this purpose!!! Best of luck on your test!!! Btw, If you can weld fairly decent, all you'll probably need is your "slag pick" (chipping hammer) & wire brush... You sure can tell if you're running your beads right by the way the slag just peels right off after the welds are completed!!!Respectfully,SSBN727Last edited by SSBN727; 09-28-2006 at 04:56 PM."Run Silent...  Run Deep!!!
