Ready to start another small one.Price of steel is still too high to do what I really want to do.  This has to be done before the biggy, so WTH, might as well get it done.  Have to do portable to do the chutes.186 worth of iron but I need it.Tractor mounted portable welding is about to make it's appearance in Payne Co.From weird minds come weird products Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Start cutting tomorrow.Gonna be a dual purpose skid mount.  3 point hookup for the tractor, and a bale to lift onto a pickup bed.  The O/A setup is gonna be designed so that I can use the existing cart.  Push it on the skid, secure it, and forget about it.  Don't want to be removing bottles and having to put them on the skid.  I'd rather just wheel the cart on.  The only drawback is that I haven't found a way to utilize the space for tool storage.  It's gonna be narrow, and cramped"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Try building a box under the skid and between where your forks are going.  It should give you a 2 or 3 foot wide by however deep your skid is box.Does that make since?????

Reply:Wind picked up today, and it's too dangerous to use a grinder (my shop's a little dryProbably a good thing, cause I figure on redesigning the overhead lift thingy.  It has to be able to slide on X & Y axis in order to balance the load.I may not need the torch, or maybe put the wire welder cart on the skid, or other stuff.  The point of balance is subject to change.  So I came up with a sliding system for the lift eye.The sliding lift bar will be collared to rails, and the lift eye will be collared to the sliding lift bar.A few drawings showing the footprint of the welding stuff on the skid, and a simple drawing of the "new" lift system for putting in on a truck or whatever.  Welder will be mounted sideways, and cart will roll on from back with a foldable ramp.  GeeshIt complicated the whole damn thing, and stuff has to be changed around before I actually cut one piece of metal.  I do this to myself all the time.  Take somethin' simple and turn it into a different mousetrap Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I know what your makin', my mind ain't right eitherDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:you gonna get 1500 pounds of grinders, hammers, clamps, wrenches and boogerpickers on that little ber cart?
Reply:Weldbead-- I'm limited in width.  50" wide max.  It has to fit between the wheel wells on a pickup truck.  Length, will wind up just under 6'.  Total weight possible, minus the steel, will be around 800lbs (welder, and OA cart) .  Not too much, but somethin' to think about.  I didn't look at my weights/measures book, but I figure at least 200-300lbs of steel, and that's using fairly light stuff.  I'm building lighter these days to try to keep in some sort of budget.Tozzi-- Think I finally got 'er fingered out today.  77degrees, sunny, and a damn good day to sip some beers, and walk around the Lincoln and think.  Radical change in design.  Think it'll work.  You see the problem with the possible weight change too.  It's all about the lift eye.  Don't wanna be danglin a lot of high priced stuff that's out of balance.  It's why the riggers make good bucks if they're any good."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Sam did I miss something? You got a new rig?  If so ...she sure is prettyBeen busy with dads truck so I havent been able to keep upI think I see your idea weld it like you own it

Reply:I think you can build with lighter stuff if you do it right...just don't bang it around or run into it with a tractor

Reply:I think I finally nailed down the design.  Supposed to be 52 and light winds tomorrow.  Maybe get something done.Meanwhile, it's Miller time"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:11ga. isn't all that 'light' structurally Sam.  More than enough for what you're making there. As for your balance and access concerns, have you considered a sliding lifting bar using a section of tube to slide over the main frame end tubes?  One on the lifting bar as well gives you adjustability in both directions.  Jam bolts can keep it located where you need it.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
