what type of welding is it when you hold the torchn in one hand and the rod in the otehr hand.
Reply:tig.or gas or carbon arcChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:does tig welding have to be gas or can it be any electric unit.
Reply:yes...tig welders are electric poweredbut a "ineart" gas comes out of the "torch" for your atmosphere shield.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:i think your getting the wrong picture..a tig machine is electric.. and there's no real flame from a tig "torch"the torch has a sharp piece of tungestion that makes an arc between the torch and the work...so the torch is in one hand and your filler is fed by your other.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Maybe he was thinking about Oxy-Acetylene?

Reply:May I be so bold as to ask what you plan on welding.  Have you ever welded before?  It's pretty hard to recommend anything if you don't tell us what you are going to use it for, how much money you have to spend and how much experience you have.  Depending on what you are trying to weld Tig may not even be the right type of welder for the project. How about some information so that we don't waste too much time telling you about stuff that you don't need otherwise open up the Miller Welding catalog and order one of each.

Reply:You may be better off with a midsize MIG machine like a MillerMatic 175 or the comparable Lincoln.  You probably don't need TIG for go cart frames and scooters and MIG is a much easier method to learn.  In addition, you can find a unit in the price range that you are looking at and still be able to afford a bottle of gas.

Reply:By electric i think you mean flux cored?  With mig there is flux core and Gas. I personally like the gas units better. And by gas they are still powered by electric but use gas for shielding. There is less clean up with a gas unit.
Reply:agreed:  Mig with a shielding gas welds cleaner and  is cheaper to operate flux wire cost more and is better  for outdoor welding hey weezer    may i ask your age?

Reply:Can you get involved through your school with a welding class? I've seen a couple of focused students go from high school welding classes right into the Boilermakers local. They both were very good welders, had excellent attitudes(you guys know the type, do anything you ask doubletime and with a smile) and both are now working 12hrs/7days and raking it in. As so far as the machine you are looking at, did you get it, cause bidding had ended when i checked your link. If you are looking to buy a welder and not a playstation3 (which cost about the same!) you have the right idea. Post back!If you don't have the time to do it right, then you definitely don't have the time to do it over.
Reply:Congats on taking your first steps. If you cant or will not find a school or someone to help you out try checking around for some small welding shops and see if you can at least watch....i say small because generaly most shops dont want to deal with the insurance nightmare if ya should happen to get hurt. However if you find a little mom and pop welding shop they MAY let you hang out occasionaly.Show up with a welding helmet, welding gloves, long sleeve work shirt, jeans(not baggy just regular jeans....no shorts)and work boots....not sneakers!!ask if they mind ya watching as long as you stay out of the way.when i say outa the way i mean outa mind also lol...Im sure you will have lotsa questions and want to jump right in helping but remember they are trying to run a business.Be straight with em give em no grief if they want ya to sweep the floor or pick up scraps as payment then do it with a smile lol. Most welders love to show someone how it works If and i repeat If you can show genuine interest.Once you can prove to them that your not just another punk teenager with an attitude ull be in like flynn. If one shop says no try another then another. If all else fails theres nothing wrong with learning on your own and remember thats why this forum is here!Ask away someone WILL answer. before ya buy a machine and start running some beads however  go to miller welding . com and lincoln electric .com.Both sites have various descriptions of the different types of welding and more importantly safety rules in downloadable form.READ THEM lolAs welders we get burnt cut banged up beat on and occasionaly get the **** shocked out of us.Its dirty, reasonably dangerous and we dont get a lot of respect from the outside world for it.Most of us still LOVE what we're doing...or at least what we can do with it. Now having said that have fun!!!!!DAMN i just read that and I sound just like every old fart that used to **** me off at that age!!Safety,Function,Form take it or leave it
