Traveling welder

So i got a job out of state and the company want to fly me out to them. I was wandering i have a brand new welding hood and i gotta take it with me. Can I take it on the airplane?

Reply:Do yourself a favor, put it in a checked bag. We fly all the time with all kinds of tools, some of them are used for electrical troubleshooting and some for woodworking and welding including hoods, gloves, leathers etc. Go ahead and try to figure that mix out? Anyway, after hours of messing with TSA inspectors trying to explain what it is and what it does, checking it just saves the hassle. Most inspectors are pretty slow and when something unfamiliar shows up it just locks them up. When you check your stuff you'll end up with a little card that says they went through your luggage. (I keep the ones they've issued and leave the stack on top, just letting them know I expect them to open it)Just remember to pack with plenty of padding.
