I want to say thank you to everyone who has posted pics and ideas. I have built 5 smokers for people and have never sold one, go figure. Why pay someone when i will do it free. LOL. I have started on my roller and have posted a few photos of it. I think there is too much play in the pipe that rides up and down. I am trying to figure out how i can slide one pulley foward to make tighter rolls. The attachment on the front of the cooker is a swinging burner so you can fry fish stew etc. That again to everyone in this forum. Will post better pics soon.TW9Y Georgia Attached ImagesAnnamel TW9Y Georgia

Reply:OK I have finished the roller and I wish i would have built one years ago. I will have to build a smaller one to roll tighter rings. I have rolled almost all my small pieces in the shop though. When I make a complete ring it is a pain to remove the top roller. I though about hinging it with a heavy duty barell hinge. Not sure it will hold the load from below. Any thoughts? Reply:You could open one end of the top roller so the piece could slide out.  It would necessictate building a stronger bearing system on the handle side of the machine.  I think if you used to two pillow block bearings on the "wheel" side of the machine and extended the shaft in that direction, it might work.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Re: When I make a complete ring it is a pain to remove the top roller. My Dad had made a home made roller with similar ideas. He made the diving shaft removable, the male splines of a drive shaft slip joint was connected to the hand wheel, and the female splines (yoke, machined to fit) were inserted into the bore of the driving rollers and welded  He also used flange bearings on his rollers. His is a bit difficult to turn, I think I'm going to borrow your step ring hand wheel idea, but make the new larger hand wheel bolt or pin on/off so you won't have to turn the larger wheel for smaller rings.Just my  opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:I think I have a handle on how the thing works.  I hope.Could you suspend the fixed middle roller instead of cradling it as it is now.?Mount it on a strongback, with a pivoted bracket that makes a true H out of it when closed?  The bolt would act as a good positive tensioner to make sure there's no slop or movement when closed.More sucky drawings, but It's an idea sorta  Maybe you could refine the idea Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:The wheel is removable with removing a pin. I have bearings on each roller. I cut a piece of pipe and turned it to fit the bearing after I welded it to the plate. I like the H design, will look at it a little more. I do not get much slippage with only one drive wheel. TW9Y GEORGIAAnnamel TW9Y Georgia
Reply:LUGI see what you are saying. If i extenf the shaft thru and also roll on the outside of bearing. Will try that on next one. Time to build another one.Its all in building it that i enjoy most. Like racing cars for 12 years. I enjoyed working on it more than i did driving.Annamel TW9Y Georgia
