I need to pick up a couple 50a female/male 240v plugs, enough to make two extension cords out of 8/3 wire.  Lowe's sells the plugs for around $12.50 each, but has anyone found better pricing online?
Reply:you could try ebay there might be some used ones on there. By the time you pay freight and wait for them to show up its probably cheaper to buy locally especially if the box stores have them. Ebay is great though for switches and motor starters stuff you normally have to buy at supply houses.Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Reply:Try a local electrical distributor instead of the BORG.  They often (not always, but often, even usually) have better pricing than the big boxes, and being local businesses, could use the support.
Reply:Considering that some USA  industrial quality 30-60 amp cord plugs easily top $200.00, the $12.50 retail price seems ridiculously cheap, one can't help but wonder about the quality and intended application.Good Luck

Reply:NEMA  6-50 plugs are standard on most 220V single phase welders with OEM plugs.   There are several good brands, all within 15-20 dollars.   Lowe's and other stores do offer these a little cheaper as you have witnessed, but there is nothing wrong with them.   Only one I have seen that stands out  as the best is EAGLE, and I haven't seen any in the last few years.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:If your making an extension cord pay the few extra buck for a rubber molded female end. Forney makes them as well as others. The cheap plastic recepticles won't last a week before the case is all busted up.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:I have some of those cheap Lowes plugs and they are fine.  If you start using them as a hammer, they would break, but they are pretty thick.  I take care of my equipment, so I guess if you beat your stuff they might not be for you.  If you are using these in an industrial shop with lots of people, they would get broken by all the idiots.
Reply:12$ is a deal.  I remember trying to source 50a 4pole/5 wire plugs (3phase 240/120v plug) and just getting a blank look from the guy behind the counter at my local electric supply house.  I'm pretty sure they would have run me 100$ minimum had they even been able to source them.I ended up hardwiring the equipment instead. If you really want cheaper, that's always an option, but I prefer portability myself.
Reply:I ended up using one of the recessed plugs in a metal conduit style box, total was under $13 (not including the wire).  This setup is considerably more robust than the standard plug, but I still wouldn't mind one of the Fourtney plugs.
Reply:I run these plugs on my welders.http://www.galesburgelectric.com/Lev...lug-Angle.htmlMade by Leviton, $16 bucks and they hold up well.I went to a local supply house and they wanted to rob me blind for the same plug.

Reply:Hi:I purchased a Pass and Seymour 6-50P yesterday for around $18.00. Box says Made In China. Appears to be very well made.Jeff
Reply:I use the old crowfoot plugs and outlets used on electric ranges. The Eagle plugs are baklite so you cant get rough with them.Outlets can be put in a metal box.I dont beat up my stuff ,too poor to buy new.I buy a lot of these items at a salvage store.Last range cord cost 3 bucks.
Reply:I too use the crowfoot range plugs and receptacles with #8 SO cord.  Works fine.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. You may pick two.Hobart AC/DC StikMate LXHarbor Freight AD HoodHarbor Freight Industrial Chop SawDeVilbis 20 Gallon, 5 HP Compressor
