Education Time = MIG/FCAW ?

i was reading in another forum where a guy was talking about using shielding gas with FCAW.... Reply:not so fast..i've never done it but welderwomn has done this procedure many times...SHE will have an answer for that... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I had a big discussion yesterday about this very subject, so I will tell you what my CWI books say. "Some electrodes are formulated to be used without any additional shielding other than that contained within the electrode. They are designated by the suffixes 3,4,6,7,8,10,11,13,and 14. However, those electrodes having the suffixes1,2,5,9, and 12 require some external shielding to aid in protecting the molten metal. Both types offer advantages, depending upon the application. Additionally, the suffixes G and GS refer to multiple pass respecively." Reply:thanks for the replies..... i learned something, i thought if you were running flux core you didn't need gas, but now i see there is different types of flux core. OK cool... yep i was reading a post os AWS forum, and ran across that. i thought to myself these guys are smoking crack.... but the joke is on me... there is a reason for it....
