Ok everyone,My miller M-10 took a big dump today (only a matter of time). I am looking at a roughneck for my DVI but I also see alot of knock off type guns like Tregaskiss etc. and the roughneck starts around 235.00So, what do you all think of the off brands? Hard to get o-rings, tips and such?Anyone have a good resource for these? I have bought at cyberweld and they seem to be one of the lowest around.Any ideas?ThanksBill
Reply:I personally own a tregasskess and the parts and tips are no problem to get,the suppler here is Norco which I think you have them in your area too. Just make sure it has the right pin because lincoln and miller are not inter-changeable. Also they have flex necks so you can position your gun by angle of nozzle and one other neat feature is you can buy a lock so when welding long welds the lever remains in the pulled position, I strongly recommend this type of gun.
Reply:First off the Miller is a Tregaskiss.Look for a Binzel Alfa 2 for about $125.00 or less. It's a deal and also uses Tweco tips. http://www.binzel-abicor.com/showpag...mnu=241&lng=27 Attached ImagesLast edited by Scott V 2; 11-25-2006 at 11:24 PM.
Reply:Ive got 3 Binzels and have never had a problem with any of them.Easy to get tips ,easy to change liners and the nozzle on the later models have a good gas seal. They are also light .I have Binzels  connected  to suit Lincoln and SAF .If I needed another gun I would get another Binzel as I have never had a problem with any that Ive owned but the only other gun Ive had was a SAF and found it cumbersome.Having said that,  other brand guns may be just as good?
Reply:cool looks like they make a 180amp version also, the Alfa 1 that could fit well with the DVI although i dont know the $$ on it. it might be werth looking into also. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:The two I use the most are a 180 amp Binzel with the flex neck and Binzel Alpha-2.Easy maintenance, standard tips, good ergonomics, knock-on-wood "no problems".    Good Luck,
Reply:JJW any chance you remember the $$ on the 180amper or alpha-1 its called right??a ballpark $ is fine i'm just looking for an idea of about $ summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:I like Tregaskiss.  The reason is that twenty odd years ago when they started to break into the market they supplied a gun that could be repaired!  If you look at their catalogue almost all the parts are interchangeable between styles so that you can custom design or salvage parts from other guns.  If you happen to drop a beam on a Tregaskiss lead and cut it in two you can replace the cable or salvage a cable from one of your old guns.  If a trigger lead dies... there are an extra pair in the lead just for that reason.   Tregaskiss thought all this out long before Bernard and Tweco.  For the home hobby guy this is not so important but in a large shop it is a huge cost saving.  Also note that with MIG guns, if it is rated at 200 amps that is with carbon dioxide shielding.  With argon mixes the gun really is only good for around 150 amps.... Maybe even less.  The carbon dioxide supplies copious amounts of cooling.

Reply:I have a few tregaskiss toughguns and love them.  Parts are high quality and inexpensive.  I bought 100 hd .035 tips and assorted nozzles for a total of $18on ebay and could have done that several times.  I have bought 3 used guns off ebay, all for less than $60 each and all have worked well right out of the box.  Used and in good condition, you can pick these guns up for very cheap.  The standard power pins run about $30 (I think the Euro connector is a bit more), so you can buy the right pin to go to just about any welder for this gun.  My toughguns all came with the old tweco #4 connector...which is what I need for most stuff. I have a miller roughneck and m15 also.  Both are good guns, but the parts for the roughneck are not as easy to find as other guns.  Fastips are a lot more expensive than other tips also.  The M15 is on my 130 amp millermatic.  It works well for what it does.  I really have no complaints about the performance of any of the guns, but the roughneck just costs more to operate.Because the tregaskiss is so easy to repair, I use them whenever I can.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Thanks, I looked into the Tregaskiss guns but had already bid on a new roughneck. I got it for 115 on ebay. The Tregaskiss seem to be held in very high regard, so I may try them next or try to find a used one on ebay as smithboy has said. I really should have extra.Bill
Reply:thanks Scott , not shore when i will have the extra $100 . winter comming and all the bills that come with it. need new tires for the wifes car, and have to sheetrock the bedroom. let me look into a few things price wise on my end, i would realy like to replace my gun. it works fine just looks like poo with an extention cord used for a triger return line, as you can see in the pic its a bit yucky, but fixing yucky falls ferther down the to do list than keeping the family worm.i'll shoot ya back a PM when i have some $ to burn. i realy hate looking at it but it works. Reply:How do you determine what amp gun you need? I have 400 amp profax,I bought it that way.and what about hose lenght? such as 10' or 15'
Reply:look at the duty cycle of the welder and then that of the gun to see what is the recomended fit. duty cycle is the key to getting the right gun. most TIG torches are rated at 100% duty cycle but the benzel seem to give you a 100% in Co2 and less with c-25 . the ifrst thing to do would be find out what the duty cycle of the torch is by its manufacturer. as for 10 ft or 15 ft thats up to you. if you intend to try to push aluminum wire threw it you might want to go with the 10 ft but the 15 ft would give you more reach for day to day use. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:according to manual, mine is 200A @28 volts DC 60% duty cycle. the welder is miller regency 250.it has spool gun,but I added a feeder to it.so now how do I figure out what amp gun?
Reply:i would say the ALPH2 is a perfect fitits ratings are  Cooling: air-cooled  Rating: 250 A CO2      200 A Mixed gases60 % Duty cycle  Wire-Ø: .024" - .045"   (0.6 - 1.2mm it will use .023 threw .045 wire and is rated at 200amps 60% duty just like yourr welder. it's also rated for C02 use but the welder dose not take that into acount as it has no efect on the welder coil only helping to cool the gun. i would go for the ALPHA 2 summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:if scot recomends them i would feel safe in getting one. i believe him to be the same scot thats on the miller and hobart board, if so i would have to say he has a reputation. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:Thank you all for info.to straight up honest I dont even know what spray arc is.I am not now or will I ever be a professional welder.I bought my regency because of the spool gun.I had reffer trailer that needed repair.I couldnt find local welder to repair it in a reasonal time period.so I now have a welder so I say to myself how hard can this be?? ya just clamp on ground pickup gun pull trigger and job done  well I was wrong.so welder sat two years never touched it.then I came across feeder cheap, and started to play.and then I realized I was having fun,but there was a ton I did not know.so found this site, just read for couple months, then registered.I truly respect all pro's and all the knowalage here.between here and a little practice I can actuly do different projects now.so again thank you all for info,it is apperciated.
Reply:glad to here you decided against doing a trailor right off the bat. best to get some practise in befor trying somthing like that.mig can be picked up pretty easy but you have to make shore you have a good solid weld not just a prety one. a cold weld can be disasterous and even worse if its on the road. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.Originally Posted by rookieThank you all for info.to straight up honest I dont even know what spray arc is.I am not now or will I ever be a professional welder.I bought my regency because of the spool gun.I had reffer trailer that needed repair.I couldnt find local welder to repair it in a reasonal time period.so I now have a welder so I say to myself how hard can this be?? ya just clamp on ground pickup gun pull trigger and job done  well I was wrong.so welder sat two years never touched it.then I came across feeder cheap, and started to play.and then I realized I was having fun,but there was a ton I did not know.so found this site, just read for couple months, then registered.I truly respect all pro's and all the knowalage here.between here and a little practice I can actuly do different projects now.so again thank you all for info,it is apperciated.

Reply:Just wanted to thank scott v 2 for the info.  I picked up an alpha 2 for my little lincoln 175 and could not be happier.  It works sooo much better than the gun that came with it.  I was cussing it up and down (something wrong with the switch, cheesy clips etc). Thanks again and merry christmas.
Reply:I like my Tweco guns, easy parts avalibility and almost weldor proof. I am running 5/64" flux core though, and need an HD gun.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
