Hi all, Im gonna be welding on some 1/8th steel soon and Im wondering what the optimal flow is for argon/co2 mix? I have been running around 14, but Ive seen all kinds of numbers thrown around. Does it change depending on what your welding? I have a Lincoln 135thanksDustin
Reply:MIG - I personally use between 5 and 10, depending on what I'm doing. TIG - I run between 15 and 20.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:damn, Ive been waaaaay to high then. Thanks
Reply:I leave mine between 15-20 cfm. Style makes some difference. Uf you're consistant you can pick a flow that works and leave it. If your radical like me, a higher flow works best. I can pull it, push it, run a long stick out, I even use a ground down nozzle for tight spots. Whatever your comfort zone is.
Reply:I typically run around 30-35...... with a 92-8 mix_________________Chris
Reply:Ok see this is what Im talking about...The range is reeeeaaally big. Anyone else?
Reply:I have a couple of SP135 Lincolns. I run about 15cfh when welding. IMO, anything above 18-20 is just wasting gas.Sandy brings up a good point, hand speed and style play a role in what flow you should use.I'd say anywhere between 10-20 is a good starting point. Practice a little with varying the flow. Get to a point where you like it and stick with it.Almost everybody can/will tell you something different about settings or technique. Each welder has their own "style".There are a lot of really talented people on this forum. Take their advice, try different things and learn your own methods and practices.Hope this helps.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Gas aint cheap, not to me atleast, run 15 in good controlled enviorment, and if there is much for air circulation in your area (fans, other machines,ect..) then run a bit more. As said it does depend on a few different things, not being a smart arse, but go with what ever works.Dan.Repair Specialties LLC
