hi everybody...i got this old welding machine which worked perfectly and at the time it was a prof one.but for some reason, which I dont know, it jumped off and start to loose some oil. I switched off the elettricity and once opened i descovered that inside had 2 pot, seems oil filter (of course isnt), i just know that there is oil inside....i dont know about the machine, name or whatelse....i just know that im trying to fix the problem....so if somebody know what can be that oil....those pot for what are they???will be really nice to know too....thanks
Reply:I have no clue about engine driven welders (the truth is that I just saw my first one today in the street on the way to the office) but, people won't be able to help much unless you post... ¡pictures!Given that you have no clue about brand, model, year and such, pictures are the only thing that may help. At all.Good luck!Mikel
Reply:Post the manufacturer, model and serial # of the machine.  Pictures would also be nice.I can't tell from your post whether you are talking about an engine driven welder or an electric machine nor can I tell exactly what you are concerned about.Just a wild guess, can't be sure, but if these are electrical components, they could be oil filled capacitors."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:We had an old Forney AC only machine out in the machine shed at the inlaws farm.  I was welding on a trailer one afternoon and there was a loud boom, flash of light and the welder quit.  It had oil running out the bottom of the case.  Opened it up and there were two oil filled capacitors and one had the side blown out and lost it juice.  The flash and explosion brought everyone out of the house to see what I had blown up and to make sure I was ok.Not sure if this is your issue but I thought I would throw it out.  A picture of your welder would help.Dan
Reply:I think you hit the nail on the head Dan.  Sounds like a failed capacitor to me too.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Is it that or is it this welder is an old transformer that's submerged in a thermal oil bath for cooling? These units are 100% duty cycle. If that's the case, the oil required should be an electrical cooling oil.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:If that is a really old machine, beware of that oil and don't get it on you. Early transformers and capacitors had oil that was full of PCB's. This stuff is cancer causing and a bad player. Just soak it up with absorbent and get rid of it. Should be disposed of properly but don't get it on or in you."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
