Finally got around to doing something about supporting the metal lengths I run through my one chop saw. It's intended for lighter stuff as I use one of my 2 band saws and conveyors to cut heavier stuff down in the barn. My problem was always supporting a full length of steel. I either had to put the saw on the floor and use blocks to support the material, or, put the saw on the bench for doing shorter pieces, same scenerio.I had this metal stand. Leveled the stand with saw mounted. Then clamped a 4' level in the vice and marked the wall. The are nothing more than 1" channel with a 3/4" solid square welded on the end. The stationary mount attached to the wall is 5/16" x 1" flat, and 1" square tubing. I ground the flats on the 3/4" square to fit nicely in the ID of the tubing. Attached the mounts to the wall with lags. As you can see, the "metal holders" are removeable so they aren't in the way when not being used. What's also nice, my metal wall I put up to prevent fires from the solid wooden wall underneath, is bridge decking. The mounts fit nicely in the recess. Attached Images
Reply:Neat idea. Nice red paint and all, but maybe a day-glo safety orange would stand out more. Nice idea on the socket 'receiver' for the brackets. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:That is one neat idea! I may try to incorporate something like that. Don't use a lot of heavy stuff so the would work OK for me. Place I get material at, first cut is free, then around 2 bucks a cut after that. I guess if you "pre-plan" things work benches and wall hanging stuff won't be in the way of anything. Again, great idea that makes things easier.
Reply:Now there's are a useful idea.Of course I would have to find that much frre space in my shop to be able to do it.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
