I acquired a 20# CO2 bottle. I went to get it filled (exchanged) at Vern Lewis. They pointed out that it was a Coke bottle, C.C.B.C. stamped on the neck. They couldn't fill it.I thought I would call Coke to see if they wanted their bottle back, it has a hydro date of 6/84 on it. I tried to get ahold of the proper person at Coca Cola via phone and email, but have yet to hear back from anyone. What can I do with this bottle? I would love to have a full tank for welding.
Reply:Take it to a restaurant with a drink fountain. Preferably one with a Coke contract. Exchange it with them for cash. It's either that, or come up with a bill of sale to present to the place where you plan to exchange.Last option: Tell them you don't want it exchanged, only filled. You will have to wait, but they will likely have less of a problem with it.
Reply:Try taking it too a paint-ball shop. My buddy owns one and he fills 5 to 20 pounders for guy that have kegerators all the time. Paintball shops usually have a lot of K tanks full of CO2 and a fill station.Jay DavisAWS-CWIC-60 Specialty Welding ContractorLoving husband, and father of two boys (
Reply:The only problem is this one is out of date, so I don't think they will fill it.
Reply:Do it have ST stamped on it too? Look for the ST
Reply:I don't see anything with ST. Siphon Tube, right?
Reply:Yep The soda folks use liquid CO2 not gas.

Reply:I have a 50lb siphon tube bottle. Dry ice is fun to make at Halloween! My kids love it.I think you should find a coke place and drop it off and call it a day. It's more trouble than 20lbs of Co2 is worth. Reply:Yes, they are marked there for a reason, Those damn Coke guys steal all the other distributors CO2 bottles and stamp coke on them in house, throw a couple stickers on them and "poof" its a coke bottle. Irritates the crap out of me! @#$%@#$%
Reply:Wouldn't the other distributors have their own stamps on em?Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Not always, that is what they SHOULD do but often times they have what is considered an exchange tank that is blank like the ones you use for a keg-o-rator at home for for welding. Coke snags those up, pulls out some letter dies and stamps their name on it and put it back out in service as a deposit tank. Ever wonder why the deposit is only 20-50 dollars but to buy a brand new one its about 200 bucks? There you have it.
Reply:All CO2 bottles are liquid CO2. The difference is in the valve, one with a tube is for liquid like a fire extenguisher, the other doesn't have a tube and is for gas.

Reply:I'd just buy a dry ice maker, you can probably get one pretty cheep. It's either that or create something where the gas cant escape too quick so it has a chance to freeze into a solid. The way they make the dry ice machines is it empties into a box or mold that is air tight with a relatively low psi relief valve
Reply:Wouldn't it be easier, safer and cheaper to just buy a 10.00 block of dry ice?
Reply:I wasnt recommending him doing it... just an approach to someone who wanted to build a dry ice maker in theory... Safety scale wise it's about as safe as putting a 6" cutoff wheel on a milwaukee die grinder to cut a bolt off your undercarriage over your head with no guard and laying down on a creeper 4 inches from your head. Hey, could be exciting right?? I am very used to being around CO2 so im with you vwguy3. Should probably keep the s/t co2 around for tank purging instead.
