experienced stick guy REALLY new to tig... do i need 100 per cent argon or can i use 75 -25 ( with co2 ), like the guy at the bottle place said ? practiced lots this weekend and am hating the results.. thanks for any answers.....
Reply:woah!!! time out...what are we trying to weld?steel?aluminum?steel and stainless require straight argon..aluminum can be done with straight argon but you have to push the machine more..75-25% is ok for aluminum..so what are we doing?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Argon 100%
Reply:i am welding steel , am building a rigid chopper and attaching many pieces to frame by tacking with stick with 7018. want to finalize welds with tig but i really suck at it. built my own battery box , oil cooler , forward control mounts etc that require pretty precise welding, not to mention strength.. thanks for replys,,really appreciate it.

Reply:"can i use 75 -25 ( with co2 ), like the guy at the bottle place said ?"I would definitely find another "bottle place" and another "guy" to ask for TIG welding advice.

Reply:thanks again for the help..when you live in a small town -ain't but one place to get bottles without travelling another 30 to 40 minutes or more, so around here is a radiator repair shop that doubles as dropoff point for gas /oxygen/etc. We (our farm) has been using them for yrs--but only for oxy/acet, so when i showed up one day asking for a bottle to tig with he said : aluminum ? I said no-- he said" then steel" ? "yep " so he gives me the argon mixed with co2 -- took it back and what a difference. noticed immediate better arc, and control of same...... long way to go for me but am on the right road now...... Now anybody know how to alter pic size so i can post some here? get prompt that file size is too large. |
