This may sound like a silly question, and in reality 'It is !'But...... any suggestions on where I might source old nuts and bolts from ??I am thinking farm auctions, the car wrecking yards and then I am stuck ????I have a few project ideas running around in my head (lot of empty space up there), where I need as many old rusty (or not rusty) nuts and bolts of varying sizes. I don't want to buy new ones as this will be cost prohibitive.Any suggestions on where would be a good spot to look ?
Reply:Go to a grain elevator and ask them.  A lot of times when they replace buckets and paddles they will have a lot of old bolts.  Matthew
Reply:Auctions, Farm Repair Shops, Farms.
Reply:go to any older automotive shop. I have a rubber maid tub with about 200 pounds of nuts and bolts in it from the course of about 8 vehicles. I can only imagine the stockpile an older mom and pop auto shop has laying around.
Reply:I have a local nut and bolt supplier that has what they call "floor sweep"; 55 gallon drums full of misc. sizes nuts bolts screws etc. They charge by the pound. I've got everything out of a scoop from 5/8 down to clock repair screws and everything in between. Ranger 8 3200HD 225 Cracker Box
Reply:Heck! Why go out looking! With the economy and peoples job situations right now, just drop a note in your local paper that you are willing to buy peoples old rusty nuts and bolts, and by the end of the first day that add runs, you would have more than what you would know what to do with, people would be beating a path to your door!#1. Reply:Some good suggestions, some that I have not thought of. Thanks everyone.
Reply:If you happen to live near a Tractor Supply or Big R farm store in your area you can go nuts (sorry for the pun) and buy up to grade 8 by the pound (last time I was in the prices range from $1.59 to $2.59/lb).  http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/...me_10551_10001http://www.doitbestcorp.com/Corporat...?Reg=CO&Type=2
Reply:Just follow a ford down the road with a brush and bucket j/kI have a few pounds rolling around in the back of my truck that your more than welcome to get.. Coffee can fell over around a corner.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Stop by any farm. I have six 5 Gallon pails full of nuts, bolts screws, nails, etc, etc.oh yeah used car lots.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:If they're putting up new grain bins near you, go walk around them when you're done.  They dropped thousands of bolts when putting up the grain bins at my farm and left thousands more in buckets when they left.  Or go to the scrap yard, when cleaning out the old garage at my farm I probably took three 55 gallon barrels full of hardware to the scrap yard.
