Is there anything I can do to increase the quality of my MIG wire flux cored (no gas) welds?I am pretty new at welding so I apologize for my lack of or incorrect wording. Thanks for any input,RobertLast edited by Robert M; 02-05-2007 at 01:23 AM.
Reply:Fluxcore is the right term (another is FCAW)...but your are fine there. Fluxcore welds, at least those I have seen or done, never match the look of those made with gas. However, with good technique you can make the beads look pretty good.http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=8425See weldrwomn's FC welds. They do not have the smooth appearance of gas welds, but FC never does. These are pretty dern good. In my experience, the hardest thing about FC is seeing through the smoke. Once you can see the puddle, you can make nice welds. Just to note, I tend to be pretty satisfied with welds that are not nearly as pretty as weldrwomn's in the link above. I'd be tickled to get her welds on a regular basis.http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=8229Here is another link with some of my FC welds in there. They aren't nearly as pretty, but they are pretty decent welds...they were a little cold in places because the pans were rusty and not very uniform in thickness. You get lots of burnthrough in situations like this if you aren't careful and are shooting for full penetration. To better help you with technique, you might post a bead or two that you have had trouble with. It's easy to see problems that might be hard to describe in words.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'. |
