this is my training on vertical V joint on 10mm plate with 3/32 7018 rods at 75 amps, gap is 3/32.i have some problems in penetration because of restarts (3rd picture), need help of the best way to do it. Attached Images
Reply:Take a whiz wheel and feather the edge out before a restart. You wouldn't normally be running a 7018 root pass without backing anyways.
Reply:I am curious, if this were to be a test, what would the best practice be for this weldment, Thanks,TimA rich man is not the one who has the most but instead one who needs theleast. Reply:I can't tell in the picture, but is there a land on your root opening? If not, try a 3/32" land with a 3/32" gap. For your first pass, if you're burning it with 7018, run the root on DCEN. For your stop starts, feather the edge and grind the stop to a sort of "U" shape. I was having the same problem two weeks ago and the above seemed to help. Also, make sure your fit is bang on, it just removes another variable. Additionally, turn your arc force right open for the root. For the fill and cap, usually about 30% arc force is sufficient.Last edited by mb_welder; 03-17-2009 at 12:52 AM.
Reply:Like Supe said, if you're not using a backing bar, do your open root with 6010 or 6011, then fill/cap with 7018. 7018 isn't normally used for an open root.Start your re-start on the previous bead, at the end, circle back around over the depression at the end of previous bead to fill it, then move on with the next bead.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
