Reply:Is there any possibility you can come up with a newer frame?I'm definitely not an expert on frames, but it looks like it can't be rebuilt.  Even the part that hasn't holed yet might have many mils gone from rust.  Getting to clean metal would take even more.Maybe a rear clip assy.?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:hey or u could back half it like we do in building a baja truck u can still put the original bed on it the only thing is u may have to find some rectangular tubing and just keep it straight instead of the bends it will work and tell ur dad to put a flat bed on it would make his life so much easier especially at early morning feeds(hate loading my truck wt the bed on it especially since the stacks get screwed upold skool idealarc welderEsab multi tool Milwauake 7inch angle grinder the best of all tho the oxyacceteline set up
Reply:Trust me I want to tube it like I did my FJ and some others, however, money and time are key players here.  If I go ahead and tube it, I still have to put on the new bed which he has not found yet and put the topper on.   So stock will have to be the way to go.  I would like to turn it into another crawler thoughWhen my father brings it down, I'll know what to do with it.   I already know what hes going to say,   " I dont care how you do it just make sure my bed and topper are on when your done".    weld it like you own it

Reply:Lewray, it ain't what you found under the bed. It's what you DIDN'T find under the bed. Meaning...steel. Where did the steel go to???!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:Wow that looks worse than the Flying Dutchman that capt Jack Sparrow was on! At least that ship floated when davy jones wasn't using it as a submarine. And this truck was in TN? and it rusted like that??Tubing can be expensive. My advice a good burial. If that doesn't work for your dad you might try looking around some construction sites where they are demo a building and see if you can dig up some freebie steel such as l-Beam.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:I have been working on this as much as I can lately.  The new frame rails have been cut and tacked together.  Hopefully tomorro I can get them welded up .  The rails so far have come together well with the angles I need and are pretty true.  As you can see, my camera's flash took a dump so the pics are not as good as I would like but hope to resolve that later in the week.  I'll post more when I do. weld it like you own it

Reply:This is one I've really wanted to watch.  I've never seen it done before. So, now you'll have to build out(best word I could come up with) points along the standard tubing in order to mount axles, hangers etc.?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:That's what scares me.  All the suspension geometry, and other stuff in order to make the stock items fit properly.I see the templates.  Are they made prior to cutting the old frame off?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Theres around 20 hrs in measurements before the first cut.  Im pleased with the geometry so far.  The very rough mock up was dead on.  It will be close when I start to butt them up for sure.Pinion angle, bed height, ect have been recorded.I really debated posting this one because SO MANY way of doing it. weld it like you own it

Reply:Lewray, I am Land Man for an oil Company here in Northern Texas, Your friend has the right to have access to his land no matter whats in front of it. No way, can a guy stop you from coming on YOUR land even if you have to drive through his to get to it. I would either go out there and just do it, or go to the courthouse and get it settled out, but thats rediculous. May have differnent laws where you live, but here thats how it is. I deal with these people everyday and its ussually ends up well, but sometimes you have to deal with guys like this. Just my 2 cents.Nick
Reply:Ay, re: the landlocked land. There usually are (always are?) utility and/or access easements, even to 'landlocked' land.  Check.Waiting to see how it all turns out, too.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
