hey everyone, got a slight problem with wire sticking in the tip of the gun. what seems to be catching is the burs left from the feed rollers. I'm using .035 wire and tip. Now i have replaced the tip with a brand new one (3 times actually)... Help, this is very agravating... i'm throwing away more wire then i'm welding with.
Reply:Sounds like the drive rolls might be adjusted too tight.Try backing them off so they don't deform the wire. Are you welding with a solid electrode and gas or flux core? The drive rolls should be smooth for solid electrode and shouldn't leave any burrs.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:its flux core... and its backed off quite a ways.. just finger pressure...  Now i'm welding in -15 degress celcius... would that cause the roller to slip?
Reply:As ZT stated you should be using smooth VEE groove rollers with solids and knurled with flux-cored wire..... Adjust the tesion on your rollers so that the rollers will slip if you were say pinch the wire while you have the trigger pulled..... start off tight and reduce the pressure. Another thing is to change your tip so it get used.... sometimes the heat from welding will distort the tips causing them to pinch, or if you burn the wire back into the opening and you free it up there may be an obstruction that will make for difficult feeding._________________Chris
Reply:I see you posted that you are using flux-core, adjust your rollers the same way.... If you are using v groove rollers you may be distorting the wire itself._________________Chris
Reply:Right, double check your rollers, there are two or 3 slots on them and they are incrememted in size and groove type. Take them off and take a good look at them. Make sure you're using the groove for .035 wire and not the solid wire groove.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I'm gonna pic up a new roller and see...
Reply:the brake for the roll of wire can be set too tight as well.
Reply:They just might be a little too loose and spinning under the slightest feed irregularity. With the flux core, everytime there's a slip or spin-------ten feet later there's gonna be a scarfed spot hit the tip. Plus sticking can cause tiny little burnt burrs inside the tip as well. This sticking in the tip can be a compounding problem. Once it sticks, spins and arcs it can be darn tough to get to a point where you're running smooth again. Next time it sticks take off the tip, check it for burrs with a torch tip cleaner, clean it out good, peel off a decent run of wire to get past the scarfs, recheck the tension for a good strong feed. Not too loose, not too tight. I tend to run mine a little tight with an old wore out tip.
Reply:thanks guys...  when the problem started, i eventually noticed that the wire had slipped out of the little groove in the feed roller. i put it back it place and it seemed to help. but its about half as bad as it was, but its still very very aggravating...

Reply:It sounds like cleaning out your liner would help also
Reply:i think i fiqured it out... my roller has 2 grooves .8mm and .9mm when i switched wire size i forgot to flip the roller...
