I bet you guys get this a lot but i just started welding and i have an auto darkening helmet that has shades 9-13. I have a harbor freight flux core mig and a linde 295 arc welder and I need to know what should I have the shade set for them? Thanks
Reply:Dark enough you can see the weld well and not have an after image after you weld. It's not a smart answer, but the truth. Everyones eyes are different. What works for me may be too dark/light for you. I use a 9 for tig, a 10 for mig and an 11 or 12 for stick most times inside. Outside usually a shade darker on a bright day..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
