Hey everyone!I thought I would share the latest project that came my way this week!If you remember, I had started a thread called My daily grind, this is one of those special orders that I mentioned that come my way, recently more often than not.I will be making a sleeve hitch lift link that goes onto a 1968 John Deere 140 that has been restored by a collector, but he was missing this one piece to make his sleeve hitch operational, and of course, this was discontinued by JD years ago!So here we go!In this first pic, its the cad drawings that was made by a friend for this, it shows the general layout of the part, once finished it will be about 2 1/2' long. But first I had to rebuild my PM 600's torch head, since I don't as of yet have a mill, I will have to drill the holes and cut out the excess for making the 2 elongated slots in the metal. The torch head was damaged by the PO who kept using the cutter way past its consumables life, and this is how it was when I purchased it.Hypermax was great in helping me get everything needed to rebuild it, and after a full new set of consumables to complete it, it cuts again just like new! Attached Images#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:In this next pic, I have already bent the end angle and cut the slots in both end pieces!I next needed to attach the small end piece to the long arm.The longer piece is made of 1 1/2"x3/8", and the small piece is made of 1 1/2"x3/16"bent to give it a half inch of center clearance. The threaded rod on the end is 7/16-14 rod for the adjusting end that I will later be making a U shaped bracket to go on it that will eventually attach to the sleeve hitch.I know how you guy's love to look at welds, so here's a few of my not to pretty, but functional welds that will later get cleaned up before painting this! Attached Images#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:The next one is after I attached the end piece, and yet another weld!I did grind down the welds on the sides, as they need to allow for clearance! And then the basically finished lift link, minus the U-shaped bracket for the end.I still need to clean it all up for painting yet! Attached Images#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:I still need to make this last piece!I will be finishing this up today, and painting it JD green of course!I will post the final finishing touches later! Thanks for looking!Ken. Reply:Ken, you forgot the "not too pretty" welds.Looks like a fun little restoration project.  Isn't it cool to be able to build things?MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Yup!I love this stuff! And to think, I gave up driving truck to do this full time. But then again, thats why in my personal file I put down that I was a professional hobiest. Its nice to be able to combine something you love to do, with making a living to!#1. Reply:Nice work.Question about the threaded piece. Is it a bolt or threaded rod? I know that threaded rod is not very strong, I try to us a cut bolt when possible. Just a thought.Once again nice work.Tim Beeker.
Reply:It is threaded rod!But it isn't the standard cheap galvanized stuff sold at discount stores, its made of the same stuff used to make grade 5 fasteners. It is made here locally by Indiana Specialty Fastener Corp.it should do well for this type application, it has a ksi of 120.Grade 5 bolt capability in yield (stretch) = 92,000 lbs / in2 x .03349 in2 = 3081 lbs minimum. So in this application, for use by a small engine garden tractor, the weight to ratio, it will never see its minimum capability limits.Good question though!Ken.#1. Reply:I didn't read the post first.  I saw the picture and said to myself that looks like a John Deere sleeve hitch linkage arm.  Damn if I wasn't right.   Good job on it. I happen to have 3 complete sleeve hitchs for JDs.  Along with this part.  Which usually ends up getting lost.  There was a guy selling replacement ones on ebay.  Its a new racket you could get into.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
