I need advice.     When wiring a trailer for lights etc., there are black rubber grommets that you can buy.    These circular grommets are ussually used when you need to run your wires into or through steel in which there is a hole you may have drilled.   The purpose of the rubber grommet is to cushion the support of the wire, and protect the wire and it's insulation from wearing from all the rattleing around when trailer is being used.    I'm sure over 90% of you now know exactly what I'm talking about.     Now heres my dilemna.     I need to repair someones trailer, that has wires running through the rectangular tube which serves as a tounge for the trailer.    The wires in the tounge branch off through smaller tubes which intersect off the side of the tounge.   The wires in the gussets lead to marker lights on the trailer.     My problem is I need to replace the tounge, and reweld the gusset tubes to the side of the new tounge.   The wires need to be in place before I weld all 4 sides of tubes.     I'm afraid the black rubber grommets will melt from the heat.    So does anyone know of something I can use that will withstand the heat.    What I mean is is there any grommets made for high heat.     Even if it isn't a grommet, I need something to stick in there that wont melt, and will stay in place over the years.    Any ideas?

Reply:thanks anyway Fred, but it'll be exceding 225 degrees.     Old Iron, that sounds best so far, I've seen silicon in sheet form, but I'll need to try to find out about the liquid form your talking of.    Rain and water won't be a problem.

Reply:just take the wire grommet and cut it, not in 2 but on one side so that is still 1 piece do the welds the place the grommet in place.
Reply:I always weld my trailers fully and then spend some quality time with a fish tape.  I do this for a few reasons.  I can make the harness all one piece to avoid corrosion problems later.  I also know that if a problem does come up I can pull the harness back out to fix it.  All it takes is a little planning.  In a pinch, you can do what Ron suggested.  Find a tight fitting grommet, slit one side with a razor blade, and work it in around the wire.My name's not Jim....
