Hows that for a non existent word ...."Unclutterer"  When I first made my workbench I gleaned ideas from here and seen how everyone said that their bench tops soon became cluttered with tools ETC...Armed with that information and the fact I wanted lots of spots to clamp, I opted for the grid top, which works extremely well.Funny thing though, within 10 minutes of working on my first project I had a piece of old timber sitting on top of my bench cluttered with tools !  Had to be a better way I thought, and came up with this idea. It's a swivel flat top bench for all my clamps and things, that can swivel around the corner on the end of my bench, or be right next to me. It can rotate as well, so I can have a long or short side against my bench.I have positioned it so that it sits just under the top of my bench and fits in nice and snug without moving. Being lower than the bench top means any large projects can be moved around without interfering with the tools on the bench. If it gets in the road for any reason, I simply lift it off and put it under my bench. I can also put another bracket on each corner of the bench and move it to another location if working from that side.It cost me about $20 in material and is the best addition I have added to my bench. I am thinking as I sit here typing that I might go out and weld a couple of hooks on the underside edge where I can hang my angle grinder.
Reply:That's a great idea!I'm going to make one.But I'll make it so it will swivel right under the bench when not in use. Thanks for the idea.Scott
Reply:I find that if you make it a regular practice to have your way with the ol' lady on the bench, she'll keep it cleaned off.Oh, that's a slick little nurse tray though!

Reply:Nice idea!  When I read the title though I thought that it would involve a hydraulic tilting mechenism that would dump everything off the end of the table!  Also welding table clutter would make an interesting thread, I know my table is very "interesting" looking now.

Reply:Hey Eyspy, any chance of you posting the under side of the tray?  also, I would like a close up of the "hinges" under the tray and the side that attached to the bench.  I thought about making a deck right under the table top, but i like your swivel idea way better.

Reply:i was gonna say if i made it to swivel under the table it wouldnt work because it would become so cluttered...
