So here is a photo of a rack I built for a friend. It was built entirely from measurements, as the truck was 300 miles away at the time. It fit like a glove, the hardest part was finding square aluminum tube with a radiused corner. Attached ImagesLast edited by bebo; 11-08-2008 at 10:04 PM.Reason: didn't post pic
Reply:I haven't seen too many external racks like that lately. Used to see a few now and again. The lines complement the camper.Did UPS take the length kd'd? The weight would have been no problem at all."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:No, I got it in 24' mill lengths from http://www.yarde.com and had it shipped freight.
Reply:Oh, I thought that you made it so it could be assembled at your buddies end. Now that I've looked at the pics again I DON'T SEE NO BOLTS! sorry"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Nice rack! (on the truck!) It all blends in well. It must have been well made to fit like that, from a good set of measurements. Reply:are the corners on the small horizontal plates that the verticals rest on rounded ?they look like slicers to me...
Reply:I took the measurements a few months before I actually built the thing. I did a solid weeks worth of trig refresher so I didn't f up the cuts. Here's a couple of pics of some mockup joints I did for practice. And no, the corners aren't slicers. Attached Images

Reply:Nice rack. Picky details: no tie-down loops/lugs? The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:I used a Lincoln V-205T with a 150 amp aircooled torch. I bought a watercooler after that one. I welded about 30 seconds and then had to stick the torch in front of the fan to cool it down. No lugs or tie-downs, the customer didn't want them. Unfortunately the truck fell victim to the Toyota frame recall, but the rack now sits on a regular cab silver Tacoma, so it still looks pretty good. The rack's primary purpose is to transport a whitewater raft and other assorted boats. Raft guiding is my other job. Check out http://www.narr.com
