Hi All. I need some advice selecting a TIG for my use. I'm experienced at MIG (MM210) but new to TIG. I make sculptures out of 1/8" mild steel and some of the smaller pieces seem to lend themselves to TIG for the tighter control. I don't work with aluminum but if I do I have a spoolgun with my MM210 to handle that.My usage is somewhat limited so I don't want to invest $$$ for this limited usage. In looking at a DC only unit, HTP makes the 130 DC-HF and on the other side of the ocean there is a Riland AC/DC. As you can see, I'm trying to keep the expense around the $900.00 level. I've bid on a few Miller Maxstar 150 STH machines on ebay, but they sell for prices that are within 10% of the new price. Great resale value but above what I want to spend.Does anyone have some experience with either of these machines, or some sage wisdom and suggestions. Thanks very much Jack
Reply:Sounds like you know what you want, you just need to make a final decision. For service and support, I go with Miller.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Miller's service is hands down bar-none. Maybe look for a DC used Miller on Craigslist? Ive seen a few out there easily in the range you want to spend, and the parts are still available via Miller.ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite! |
