tig gas lense size

I have a set of 4/5/6 standard pinkish color cups that came with my ck-17 torch.  I've read many books that recommend using larger cup sizes and gas lenses.  Right now I am currently practicing with 1/8 and thinner mild steel using 1/16 and 3/32 tungsten using a normal air cooled torch setup.  In Richard Finch's "Performance Welding Handbook" his cup size guidline is 8-12 for 1/16 tungsten and 12 for 3/32 for work with stainless steel.  These seem higher than the charts included with my ck torch and other charts I've seen in welding books.I do plan to try aluminum up to 1/8 soon so please recommend what size cup sizes I should purchase.  Thanks - ChadThermal Arc 185TSW
Reply:I have at least 55 different cups out in the garage.  They range from 4 to 10 . I use # 6 the most.  I have a complete library ( bathroom) of welding books. The book that you mentioned... Richard Finch's "Performance Welding Handbook" is the poorest example of this art that I have ever seen. Don't  tell my son's girlfriend, she bought it for me for Christmas.  Talk to your welding supplier , tell him what you are doing and go with the knowledge that the local professionals give you. If... and only IF, you can not trust them ask hereSpecific questions, get specific answers....general questions, get general answers.I am only here to learn and to help people that need helpMIKE
