Well, I finally got started on the box for my cart. Wish I'd had some thinner metal. I think I used 1/8.Wish I had a plamsa cutter, but I enjoy using the torch. This is also where I mess up for the first time, though I did not realize it until later. I meant to cut a tab on one side of the rectangle. The lid is going (or maybe was) to have a slit cut into it so that it would slide over the tab. Then I could secure the lid shut with a snap ring or even a padloack. The cross bar on the O/A cart was going to have a similar tab so the box could be locked open too. Anyway...Used a cut off disc in the gringer to score bend lines in the sheet. I didn't get them deep enough the first time, ended up bending the bottom more than I wanted, then went a little too fair and slit the corner. I think I also needed a wider kerf. And it is a box.I used 3/32 6011 set around 55-60amps (not real certain on this old welder) Tomorrow I'll probably build the lid for it and maybe stick it on the cart, or I might wait until I need to change out cylinders, that way I'm only having to wrestle them once. The box is 20" long, 6" wide, 6" deep. I think I have it big enough to put all my tips, the torch, goggles and the regulators (with some padding) inside for transport. If not, then the regulators can ride in the front of the truck. |
