I am getting ready to modify a steel pressure vessel  for bio diesel and I need to know if I get a $150 torch with 40lb tanks from linde if that would work for cutting out the holes I need and be able to weld them I am also going to need to take a heck of a learning curve to figure out how to gas weld since I have not been blessed with the use of many welders  I know I need some filler material from the gas company and set the tip to a specific color but other than that I have no clue I am also wondering if I buy this cheapo kit if I can add a longer scrapping handle and a massive O2 tank (the big medical type) later. I really need to get my hands dirty with some cutting  and welding because where I am at now there will be a great need for steel and pig iron cutting with all of the old farm equipment around here.
Reply:If you mean oxy ace welding ...well you need to practice using the same thickness as your pressure vessel.   Its not easy learning oxy ace welding;however, once you get the proper tip figured out and psi it can be done effective. weld it like you own it
Reply:I might add also I view oxy / ace a sort of lost art as welding.   My opinoin is that the best weldors are those who can do a great job using that process.  You will earn great respect ,atleast from me, if you become good at it.     I have used it in the shop when I was wanting to expand my skills; but, I have always used stick, mig, and now even tig for most of my jobs.   Hats off to you for trying a different meathod!!! weld it like you own it

Reply:You don't say what brand torch you are purchasing? Any one who has patience & a bit of hardheadedness can learn to gas weld!! It sounds like you will need 2 seperate torches.
Reply:If you end up not pursuing this any further then I suppose you've saved yourself some money. If you continue onward and upward then those 40cf tanks will end up as paper weights. In the mean time those small tanks will bust your wallet in refill costs. One of the best things you could do for yourself is explore larger tanks.

Reply:ook I didn't hear the guy right the last time... the kit is going to be $500 but that is supposed to be a total kit with the 150Cf  tanks... any ideas on cutting the cost here since I'm poorer than a church mouse and the tax return does not look very big and I am trying to shoe string budget this reactor together I am looking at two cheapo HF torch kits http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36983http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=92496 I dont know if it will work without killing me but heck I guess anything is worth a shot once I mean you do only live once ya know
Reply:In your case it sounds like the best alternative would be to buy a really good torch kit (like the Smith MD sold on Ebay for 265 inc shipping), and simply rent the tanks for now.  When you get a little $ saved go and buy the tanks you feel you need.I read alot of negatives on the HF kit (even from the people who love HF like me), and wouldnt even consider it an option for what you want to do.ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite!
Reply:150 CF tanks are included with the kit from linde and they come with the first fill up free so I guess I need to scrounge up a whole lot of steel to get this kit
Reply:Ok now I was scratching around Ebay and would the victor kit thats being sold their for $80 with S&H work for what I need for now and is victor any good?
