Story of my life.... I fanally got the S bottle of Argon today, however I did not get around to trying out the TIG welder untill after all the welding supply houses closed.... So. I have an older style floating ball Victor Argon/Helium regulator/flowmeter. It worked fine for a few minutes and then started making a popping sound. Well, I took it apart and the seat for the main regulator valve is shot. Tomorrow being Sunday, can I purchase a regular FCAW -to- MIG conversion kit from NorthernTool or Tractor Supply, and use that 75/25 mix calibrated regulator, or would my money be better spent by just waiting till Monday to buy the straight Argon regulator, this when my welding supply is open again?
Reply:You have to get the right flow meter for the gas your using..No two ways about it.Argon meters and Helium meters will interchange..The "ball" style have the guage in SCFH for each gas on each side of the ball chamber..Get the correct one for the gas your dealing with.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thanks Zap, I was hoping... Fu%$#.. There's allways tomorrow (or in my case Monday). By the way. I'll post my first TIG welds ever next, bear in mind that freaking flow meter worked for a few minutes here and a few minutes there between me taking it apart and "flicking" the regulator needle valve to re-seat the seat in it. I know a few things from this place, good fit, clean, clean, and good gas. The rest I'll have to work on. But next post will be the pictures. I never thought TIG could be so beautiful...Tom

Reply:Here's that pic. What sucks is that I've been waiting for this day for along time, even went out and bought new steel for the Econotig cart and for my next, and most likely last project, my home made "Old school" shifter cart with a 550cc Kawasaki GPZ engine. More to come. Again Thanks for your help and many others here... Attached Images
