Ok ever since starting to weld with dual shield flux core i never had too many problems. but i was welding away today and a mechanic ( who thinks he is pro everything!) told me you are not suppose to hear the wire. Coming from a hard wire background i was always told to set up my machine to hear the sizzle of the wire.My welds look sound and are strong, i would just like some insight into this.
Reply:I don't do that process.. but I'll bet welderwomn would have your answer.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:You have to hear the arc. If not, how would you know its right? Silent arc? DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:that's what i said.... but i have yet seen him weld also.
Reply:Hand em the gun and say show me how its supposed to be. If he has half a brain, he will say no thanks.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:How about letting us know the wire speed in IPM and the voltage of the machine as well as the polarity, type of inert gas and wire size you are using.
Reply:at the time i was welding up some 1/4" plate my volts were 25.2 and the wfs was at 260 and this is .045 wire we run c25 gas (75/25 mix)
Reply:The only way i know to get a "silent " arc is when you run a bit too high on your voltage and are in spray mode. Usually if you are in pure spray with no sound other than a hum like TIG you get cold lap. For me it is up around 29 or 30 volts on .045 wire and blueshield mix.

Reply:It does sound like the mechanic needs to mind his own business! As a matter of fact I remember the scoop ram bucket you posted and I magnafied the welds and even though it is mig it looks like you do quite well!Last edited by Dipper Welder64; 04-01-2007 at 01:07 PM.

Reply:Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure why i gave it much thought. maybe i'll snap some pics tonight when i'm at work.I've noticed he never says nothing when i got my rosebud wide open
Reply:My experience with mechanics are they always seem to know it all till it comes time to actually performing the work and they are always bitchen about the noise my hissing cobra makes (air arc). They'll get over it!
Reply:Here are some pics from work today!I love it when they ask "how long will you be gouging?"I smirk and I say, all night! Last edited by steve28; 05-16-2007 at 11:40 AM.

Reply:Flux core welds in the globular transfer mode. The frequency is a little lower but sound is still a good way to set it if you know what you,re hearing. |
