I have a millermatic 350p at the shop and I have been welding for a long time and now I'm "learing" how to use the pulse on the machine,it gives values for steel/wire feed setting for 3/8 steel and it seems to be great for the flat position but I'm trying to weld in the vertical up and it is seems to be way too hot can ayone tell me an approximate setting for the vertical up on 3/8 steel? Thanks for any help or tip you may have.
Reply:Do you have to go up?  First suggestion would be to put a stringer going down.Next, turn the wire speed down.  Wire speed is 90% of your adjustment on pulse.Shorter arc is less heat (less voltage).  I use as short as 35 (with aluiminum) and its well within the sweet spot.Arc control is essentially fine tune on your frequency.  Setting the arc control below 25 will spread the heat out.I have had zero luck with trying to manipulate the gun.  Pulse seems to make a pretty hot bead and if you know the ripple pattern that short arc does, in comparison, pulse, with little swirls, the ripples are almost always washed out.  That tells me even with pulse it doesn't solidify very quickly.Thinking about it, maybe if you turn the arc control up - say to 40 - wire speed down a bit, you could try manipulating the gun (inverted V or U).  Pure speculation on my part.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
