I am kind of restricted to storing my welder etc in the shed, and using it out side. which means I need a compact table as far as storage goes. the wife seems to think that I have to leave room for HER stuffI have had this table for a while, and was cutting plywood on loose blocks. and the blocks slipped so I have a couple kerfs in the top. The frame seems pretty strong. I have seen similar tables with a 1000# rating I am thinking of taking off the plastic top, and add 2" angles around the frame with the angles pointing out to help strengthen the edges. I figure a 30x68x 3/16 plate will run about 108.5# What do you think? would maybe 4 - 2" strips across the 30" help stiffen it? Angle would interfere with the legs...  or am I way off base???fred Attached ImagesLast edited by fredf; 05-03-2009 at 12:24 AM.
Reply:Sounds like a plan, but remember, it's also going to be a LOT heavier with that steel plate on top.  May want to consider some kind of wheels or a way to tilt the table vertical when finished welding for the day, and make sure you ain't moving it on a windy day ......If the wife complains about needing room for HER stuff in the garage, build a rack that extends over the hood of her car.  As long as she doesn't pull in too far, the rack will work fine for extra storage.  They also make the ones that hang from the garage ceiling, too, rated for something like 250lbs, sold at Home Depot.
