I need some advice on gloves

I work at a custom fab shop that deals in a wide variety of different things both large and small. I deal with the MIG welding side of this business and I am going through gloves like crazy.  99% of the time it's the seams busting or the stitching coming loose. What are some good gloves that will last a good long time because I am tired of breaking in a new pair every other week. Any advice?
Reply:I wear Tillman 850mThey cost about $17 a pair and last about 2-3 weeksA hole usually wears in the middle of index finger on my left hard first.
Reply:They all wear out. Buy what is comfortable, protects your hands and allows you to do the type of welding you do most. The less you wear them the longer they last. They are for welding. Buy heavy leather work gloves or some prefer cotton for wearing when your not welding. Keeping them clean of oil seems to make mine last longer."Liberalism is a mental disorder" Dr. Savage
Reply:I keep a working pair for handling material and set up. Then I have a pair to weld with.I "condition" my gloves as follows:1. Buy good quality gloves for the task and get the proper size for you. cyberweld glove site.2. Soak the gloves in water and alcohol and stretch the leather so they don't pull at the seams.3. Condition the leather with Mink Oil once they are dry to prevent them from shrinking.I also do this with my boots.

Soak the gloves in water and alcohol and stretch the leather so they don't pull at the seams.Can you expand on this step?  What mixture water/alcohol do you use?How do you stretch the glove?What does the water and alcohol do for the leather?To the OP, I use Tillman 750XL gloves and they are constantly on my hand.  I usually wear a hole in the left index finger, and my left glove usually ends up looking and feeling like a pork rind after a few weeks of welding (havent compared taste as of yet, I always remember to bring a lunch).  I usually have my mom take patches from old gloves and sew them on the areas that need repairing (Gotta love moms, saves me money and keeps her busy!).  With patching I can get 1 to 1.5 months out of pair.  I am very interested in prevent shrinking I have taken to using the back hand shields and they help.Jay DavisAWS-CWIC-60 Specialty Welding ContractorLoving husband, and father of two boys (
Reply:I try to get the ratio 3:1 of water to rubbing alcohol.If alcohol isn't available, plain water will work. (I've done it many times)IF they don't have a liner and are leather, I soak them inside & out.Wear them while slowing stretching the leather. Once they start to dry put the saddle soap or whatever to them to condition them.Anything with lanolin it in will work great.
Reply:buy the miller heavy duty mig / stick gloves. ive used quite a few others but none compare. no need to break em in - they are very flexable when new. so much so that i also use them for tig. i weld 50 hours a week and buy a new pair every three weeks to a month.
Reply:I am currently breaking in a pair of Black Stallion 855's (they are my heavy stick gloves). Since they are lined, I only condition the outside. At first I couldn't find the saddlesoap so I used the Ol'ladys wild cherry blossom skin lotion....atleast they smell nice....lol.We have 'these' gloves at work and I soak them since they dont have a linning.They fit better and last longer if you form them to fit better.
